Links, glorious links
Aug. 3rd, 2009 09:43 pmMonthly plug for hot_daily's monthly massive picspam:
http://www.journalfen.net/community/hot_daily/116826.html
This month containing oodles of Jeffrey Donovan (in the comments) and James May.
However, even more importantly, today's 'undie monday' pic is of Xenia Seeberg
http://www.journalfen.net/community/hot_daily/117870.html#cutid1
Xev, how I've missed you. I still prefer Zev, but such is life.
Other than that, two music recs:
UK garage/rap/hip-hop occasionally suffers from 'Straight Outta Baisingstoke' syndrome but sometimes it's very good.
Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b94beDQQtWI
Warning, it's an ear worm. And the video is probably the only thing that's ever made decent use of the Hype Williams fish eye lens.
Chipmunk (why yes, all the good names have been taken) - Diamond Rings - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IB2ataUX-A
Not only does it have earwormy properties, a killer beat, and lovely chorus melody, but the rhymes are fun.

In the cinema, Star Trek, the new one. Really, does it have a name yet?
Other that, um, ah, I'm really not sure, due to a mixture of me being busy a lot and my housemates rewatching the same films all the times. Probably 2 Fast 2 Furious. I hang my head in shame.
Other than that, I bring hot picspam linkage - this month's Hot_daily picspam is all guys (to even it out after the kick-ass women of sci-fi last time round). It features many more than the people I'm about to list, but I thought I'd better list the ones you're more likely to be interested in:
The Rock, the Petrelli brothers, a certain new Vulcan, his Captain, more evidence that I only find Anton Yelchin hot when he has curly hair, the one true crew, Gene Kelly, Errol Flynn, the men from UNCLE, Daniel Henney (who is hella hot when he's not playing that ^*&%*% Agent Zero), Ryan Reynolds in chains, Bruce Springsteen who is getting hotter as he gets older, and Bruce Campbell.
The comments include cheesecake photos of a young Richard Armitage.
And DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS jr.
~~~~
Now some music recs:
Number 1 by Tinchy Stryder featuring N-Dubz - I have no idea if it's the worst song ever or actually quite a sweet, twee little song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc7W8Q-g9Lg
What Do You Want From Me by Monaco - a lovely bit of guitary indie-electronica, made and released 10 years before it's time. The bass line in the bridge is awesome. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhZKh0sXT1s
1) Reason my hearing is decidedly cloth-eared is because I have ridiculous amounts of earwax. Will buy something for it this weekend, and if that doesn't work, it's off to the doctor's with me.
2) Lab stuff is ... well, it's not going in reverse, but I'm not sure it's going forward either.
3) Naked Spanish fencing calendar here - http://timmorehouse.wordpress.com/2009/05/28/the-naked-spanish-fencing-calender/
4) Have been afflicted by the blahs. Probably work related.
5a) May not be able to vote. Housemates may have forgotten to put our house on the register.
5b) If one more person complains that there are no viable alternatives to Labour and the Tories and then complains that all the other parties I mention are either not alternative enough for them or not viable, I may scream.
6) To balance out the male submission art link from a week ago, I bring a link to Dorothy Surrenders - http://dorothysurrenders.blogspot.com/ which appears to be girls, girls, girls all the time, and the Dorothy who writes it has similar taste to mine.
Does what it says on the tin, and definitely not safe for work, but some of the pictures are so very pretty indeed.
Run, do not walk, for pictures of Michael Donovan and Bruce Campbell, Wheedon alumni (including one of James Marsters with dark hair), X-files alumni, Muppets, the Avengers and pretty much every other spy show of which you can think.
Stuff that had nothing to do with fencing
May. 6th, 2008 12:41 amIn so much that anything I am involved with has nothing to do with fencing.
Mayoral elections - well, London can just go drown in the Thames. It's not that I don't like Boris Johnson, I'm quite fond of him really, but the Tories in charge of anything is a bad thing.
Other than that, how little press coverage did Brian Paddick get. Hello press people, there is a third party out there, and they're quite regularly the only ones making any sense.
Rugby league - yay, we snottered the Wigan scum, again. Life is good. Photo of two of the lovely boys responsible -
And I don't care how old they are now, they will always be lovely boys.
Snooker - Oh Stephen. And Ronnie once again won once he'd got himself together. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the only person who can win the world title and make me feel sorry for him because he has.
General - I have discovered I am a sucker for a broad pair of shoulders. Okay, so I've always thought I was but now I know for sure.
Jan. 10th, 2008 09:28 pmI have a new suggestion for Gambit - Josh Stewart - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1577637/ No, he's not pretty but he can do Southern and scruffy and is suitably thus that it might put the fangirls off.
Also, have seen photos of James Marsters on Torchwood, and the outfit is far too cavalry officer for it to be any good for my dignity. There will be dolphin noises.
Pretty Rugby Players
Sep. 13th, 2007 07:36 pmVirgin media are doing a pretty rugby players feature so I can not help but pass a few of them on:
Ferdinand Michalak - French fly-half - http://www.virginmedia.com/siren/celebrity/celebspotting/rugby-hunks.php?ssid=1
Chris Cussiter, in a kilt - Scottish back - http://www.virginmedia.com/siren/celebrity/celebspotting/rugby-hunks.php?ssid=6
and Mike Catt, with possibly the worst picture ever. I should point out that my little crush-let on him is now about 13 years old and it's entirely based on his voice because he's a South African emigree and well, that and his sense of humour make me make happy - http://www.virginmedia.com/siren/celebrity/celebspotting/rugby-hunks.php?ssid=10
There is a sad lack of Samoans, Tongan and Doncha O'Callaghan in their list.
1) The meme:
Name one of my stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.
2) This is Sebastian Chabal
(picture care of BBC.co.uk)
Other than being rather good, and playing for Sale, could someone remind me that I'm not supposed to consider him to be one of the most handsome and attractive sportsmen I can think of. It's not even that that's a bad picture, that's how he normally looks. I think it's the rugged beardiness.
3) Once again, I stayed up to watch the Superbowl. Exactly why this has become a fencing club tradition is beyond me, when most of us don't care overly much for the game, and don't understand the rules. We also wish to object to the time it takes for anything to happen in it.
I am, however, impressed that the players don't back-chat to the referees.
I did end up cheering mostly for the Bears. Not due to any allegience, but because their defence went for ankles in the tackle and I approve of this. I had previously been told to cheer for the Colts on the grounds that, and this is direct quote from Rob, 'Peyton Manning is a god'. If he is, he's a scowling thunder-type god.
I did prefer the first half where it was more evenly split and both sides were trying their hardest. The puff did seem to rush out of the Bears about half way through the second quarter, didn't it?
That's about it, other than Prince was a wee bit crudy, wasn't he?
Oct. 13th, 2006 09:25 amI <3 cuprofen.
Watched Tristan and Isolde last night. Not too bad, if you ignore pufferfish and that I was watching it with Cornwall based archeologists who also had similar problems.
( But (spoilers) )
Although I shan't complain too much, since this was a film that had Rufus Sewell and James Franco in. Half-naked. Whee!
All about how I won't be posting fic because the fic that is finished annoys me in some way I can't explain, because it lacks purpose. I mean, even my character vignettes that lack plot have a purpose - it's to show either why a character reacted like that, or the things that shaped him into reacting like that or things like that. This doesn't even do that, and I don't know how to make it better. But I want to since there's a couple of lines I want to save.
Other than that, if it weren't for the quote from Ian McKellan below, I would be proclaiming the surviving members of the A-Team the coolest people ever. Given that, you know, they didn't kill Channel 4 for some of the hi-jinks they pulled.
But of course, Ian McKellan comes out with something like this - Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival in France on Wednesday, McKellen said, "When I read the book I believed it entirely. I thought that Leigh Teabing argued his case very convincingly indeed, and clever Dan Brown for twisting my mind in the right direction. And when I put the book down, I thought what a load of... and that's still going on in my mind. I'm very happy to believe that Jesus was married. And I know the Catholic church has problems with gay people and so this would be absolute proof that Jesus was not gay."
And I am much with the love.
Of course most of my remaining marbles that haven't been given over to the great God of Biology have been well and truly scrambled by the pictures of Sean O'Haire that Mynx posted.
( More about the hype really )
On slightly more fun form - I may be tempted to watch said film when it comes on TV purely for this alone - Paul Bettany as a self-flagellating albino monk. Which really shouldn't make me quite as het up as it does. Not entirely certain whether it's more the monk bit, the flagellation bit or the Paul Bettany bit. But the combo is scrumptious.
Sirius Black
May. 2nd, 2005 12:30 amI know I keep going on and on and on about how the casting for the films always seems wrong and how vivid mental images are incredibly difficult to cast for and to explain etc. Well thanks to rightclicklick I think I've found the best possible explanation of what I think Sirius (pre-Azkaban) looks like.
http://www.livejournal.com/community/rightclicklick/2217487.html
Look at the "Women Talking Dirty" pictures. That's pretty much dead on.
Any complaints, comments, or suggestions that I seem to be reading an entirely different book to everyone else are welcomed.
For I am bored, so I bring diva pics. Including the best one of Jazz I've ever seen.
( Jazz )
( 3 of Jackie, I mean the real one )
And last but not least ( Ivory )
Feel free to throw tomatoes at me if you've seen them before.
Edit - thanks to Katie for telling me the image tags were messed up.
Nov. 11th, 2003 03:04 pmWatched 'In & Out' yesterday, not going to change your life but it's a nice feelgood film.
Plus, while everyone else goes ga-ga over Jonathan Rhys Myers and Ewan McGregor snogging, I'd much rather have Kevin Klein and Tom Selleck (who looks so different without the moustache)
Oh and Matt Dillon must be made to play Romeo somewhere along the line.
BTW why on these lists of cute actors is Kevin Klein never on them, for he is indeed fantabulous.
What makes someone attractive?
Jun. 10th, 2003 11:31 pmJust pondering. What with O'Haire being the new pin up (it's the swanton bomb curse I tell you).
You see back in the when about a month ago when Jeff was the hottie de jour, I'll admit I didn't get it. Good enough looking guy and all, I just didn't get it.
Now O'Haire meanwhile, the mad screaming over him I get. I more than get, I join in a lot of the time.
Same with E&C, I don't get why people go ga-ga over them from a looks point of view. Yet I find Ric Flair to be kinda cute.
Other than my obvious problems :) and the whole eye of the beholder thing, I was wondering if there was an equation that makes someone attractive to large numbers of people.
Bond stuff
Oct. 30th, 2002 11:09 pmProof that Benicio Del Toro always was good looking even when he wasn't Hollywood's golden boy.
Young and a Bond Villan
The amount of cheering from me when he won the Oscar was probably bordering on noise pollution, but it's always nice when someone you dug before they got big and famous win stuff.
And if you're looking, more bad guys (spoilers if you've never seen The Living Daylights)
( More stuff, spoilers so I've cut it )
On a Bond cast related note, how good does Sean Bean playing MacBeth sound?
