In St. Helens at least, he'll always be under-rated because he was only very, very good, and the two hookers either side of him chronologically are 'the player voted the best Saint ever' and 'the only player ever likely to be voted above him'.

The non-pretty-working-class experience (which I am going to steal if I ever need a description) is underrepresented.

That is an entirely ridiculous ratio. Also, dear Sky, no matter how hard you try, 'Wide to West' is not as good as the van Vollenhoven try.

In 1972. Wales Rugby Union had their first black captain in 2002 (the marvellous Colin Charvis), and England Rugby Union in 2004 (Jason Robinson who they stole from League - interesting article here - https://www.englandrugby.com/news/article/first-and-last-jason-robinson). Sullivan was one of several black Welsh players who moved from Union to League because they'd never get a Union game no matter how good they were - if I may recommend a documentary The Codebreakers, and associated statue - https://www.rugbycodebreakers.co.uk/ They're not all black but it's noticeable how many of them were. Rugby League owes a massive debt.
