Poor being used in both its meanings, because I do feel sorry for the poor bot because it has a lot of work to do, but it's also really badly written.

Some background for the non-tumblrites - in December 2018, Tumblr banned "all images and videos depicting sex acts, and real-life images and videos depicting human genitalia or "female-presenting" nipples", in one of those phrasings that smacks of a large corporation trying to sound "woke" and failing miserably.

To judge whether or not previously posted photos were illicit they used a robot.

19 of my posts were flagged by the poor little bot.

A summary of the 19 posts )

Of the 19, one contains a female breast. Which is breast-feeding, an activity explicitly excluded from the ban.

Mostly the poor little bot has great difficulty telling male wrestlers apart from naked women, and has an active hatred for photos of Thomas Voeckler (allez Tommy!).

These were all flagged before you could appeal, but after it became obvious that the poor overworked bot couldn't tell its etcetera from its elbow (or a woman from mid-2000s Chris Jericho), they started allowing appeals and all were cleared on appeal.

In that time, I reported 8 porn accounts.

Since then, I've had to report another 6. I've also had a variety of other posts flagged. Tumblr seems to only flag posts as you either post them or edit them.

Summary of flagged posts )

You'll note 2 of those aren't even human. And one of them is the Pope.

I was going to post this anyway, but they've just flagged a photo of a statue which, while it does feature breasts, is of a naked angel praying and is theoretically covered by the art exception. I appealed but got told my appeal failed. We all know the appeal is just another bot, I suspect a slightly better but more calculation-expensive bot, so I have emailed and am trying to get a human to actual see that she is made out of granite, but I am not holding my breath.

So far, the poor little bot has 19/19 false positives.

So some of the train companies still do the thing of naming their trains. Sometimes they have really cool names, like one of the West Coast travelling to the South West trains was named for Jason Leonard.

Sometimes they're done as part of a promotion for something, which I suspect is how this train got its name.

However it happened, I ended up on a Virgin pendelino called "X-Men: Days of Future Past". I may have squeed. I definitely took a picture. Sorry for the poor quality, I was literally running for the train (Euston's way of doing things has many issues).

Large picture of train below )

Because I am also a hopeless member of the Twitterati I also tweeted, much to the amusement of whoever was manning the Virgin Trains twitter account. I like to give them some variety in their twitter feed :)

That still aren't my review. I am still removing the majority of the emoticons from it. One is a thing that will happen and I don't want to, the other is a thing that will never happen despite it being right and good and true.

1 - Channing Tatum as Gambit. Now I love Gambit and I like Channing Tatum (seriously, none of what follows is a diss on him). The two together I am not sold on. My friend L insists I am being ridiculous. My point is that that is not what Gambit looks like, and no matter how hard he tries, Channing Tatum will not ever look like Gambit. Trying to cast Gambit it one of those thankless tasks but this is a pretty poor attempt even by those standards.

2 - Friend L and I came up with an outline for an X-Men vs Avengers movie that would actually work. )

A dream last night featured the unforgettable image of Arsene Wenger and Peter Schmeichel dressed up as the Queen and Prince Philip respectively. A severe and amusing case of it may have made sense in context.

I had a whole post written up about next season's MotoGP roster but it has vanished into the ether. I will endeavour to reconstruct it.

I, like everyone else, think that the Cal Crutchlow to Ducati thing might be a really bad idea for Cal. My logic is slightly different than everyone else's, but then again, I'm not a Brit so I remember Dovi smoking Cal on the same equipment last time they were in the same team together. And I think that was talent, not inexperience on Crutchlow's part. I think if he loses to Dovi again on the same bike, it'll do damage to Cal's chances of getting a decent bike* next time round.

I also think it's a boneheaded manoeuvre from Tech 3, I realise that they can't actually get rid of Bradley Smith (who is not as good as the BBC would have you believe) but Pol, bless him**, is only just coming up from Moto2 and how much can Bradley Smith teach him?

But, and this is where that impromptu interview the BBC managed to get with Cal Crutchlow at the British GP may have been slightly more revealing than Crutchlow had intended, where else could Crutchlow have gone. Basically, after the Honda and Yamaha factory teams, Tech 3 are the best. Ducati are the only other manufacturer team***. Gresini and LCR are good but satellite teams and I can see why they'd be less attractive than the team Ducati, even though I think either is a better option in results terms.

The other person this mucks about is poor old Aleix Espargaro (see the note that goes with **). I mean, if I were Herve Poncheral, I'd rather have had Aleix than Pol just for the experience edge.

* Because there are many things that Ducati is, and a decent bike is not one of them. And Cal is not Casey Stoner, he cannot, in the words of Charlie Cox "ride it like he stole it".

** Pol Espargaro is my baby. I am not reasonable on the topic of either of my adorable Espargaro boys.

*** Even if Suzuki come back, it'll be their first year, there are better places for Cal to be.

Dance - From [livejournal.com profile] nwhyte - http://nwhyte.livejournal.com/2111282.html

It's apparently 19 years since Riverdance first happened. Other than Abba and arguably Celine Dion, it's probably the biggest thing to come out of Eurovision. I remember watching and my jaw dropping in wonder and amazement.

Back home this weekend doing some PhD corrections. I've now reached the stage where my internal is telling me to change things back to the way they were before I made any changes. I'd be more calm about it if one of the changes hadn't been one of the three major ones my external wanted.

I have also watched the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The moment of most non-F1 fan interest was probably Petrov's short flight - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/13028570.stm (Don't worry, he's fine.) Nick Heidfeld's start was pretty awesome too. It's interesting to see Renault doing so well, even if it makes me sad that Robert Kubica isn't driving the car given all the work he put into its development.

The Red Bull radio crew continue to be fun, I'm thinking in particular refering to the tyre wear as 'falling off a cliff'. I also like that they send their 'we have no KERS' clear instead of code. Yes, it gives the other teams extra information but it also demoralises them, Red Bull are doing that much better without the magic box. I am still intrigued by why KERS just won't work for them. They've had two years to work on it since their last attempt, you'd have thought they would have ironed out the problem unless it's to do with their aero-package/downforce issues.

And for the interest of people who are not me or F1 fans, I present photos from the Washington Post Peep Diorama contest - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/gallery/2010/03/29/GA2010032903934.html Link courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] fileg

There's a secret in the last edition of [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets (number 123 - http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss105/ltw_96/michael_slytherin_final.jpg) which states that the secret writer thinks that Michael Schumacher would have been sorted into Slytherin.

I have to say I totally agree, so I've been thinking where I'd sort other people.

Gryffindor )

Hufflepuff )

Ravenclaw )

Slytherin )

Personally, I think sports people are going to skew to Slytherin just because being sucessful in sport involves being determined and ambitious.

Anyone want to suggest anyone?

"Ferguson was quoted this week claiming Real Madrid only signed Heinze as a means of luring Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bernabeu." http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/29102008/58/la-liga-heinze-hits-ferguson.html

This was going to be a sober sensible post before I saw that.

So about two weeks ago, I was on my way to the Leicester Open (which is in Stratford for reasons to complicated to explain) when the news said that Joerg Haider had died. And I couldn't join in the general celebrating, not because I agreed with anything he ever said or did, but because I couldn't help but think about his poor aged mother.

There's many things I have to be grateful to Mr. Haider for, mostly that my nostalgia for home is not tainted by any belief that Austria is paradise. Paradise would have, I hope anyway, significantly fewer far right loonies. Austria is remarkably right wing, there's a very good reason why in the mock world vote for President of the US (http://www.iftheworldcouldvote.com/) Austria is one of the few countries where McCain is getting a reasonable portion of the vote.

And given that the first time he came to any great power, I was old enough to remember him, meant that from an early age I know not to trust excessively charismatic people and that just because someone's popular, doesn't mean they're right.

Of course, the main problem is that he was actually not as right wing as his possible successors so the FPO and whatever his new party was called are only going to go further right, and I fear people might still vote for them. Gah!

In regards to wishtheworst and Opera's France-related problems, mostly because of a uni aquaintance who would go to France for holidays and come back with Sodom and Gamorrah-esque tales (or at the very least, ones that should have got her and her French fancy man done for public indecency).

Dear fic writers of the world, France is where you get up to monkey business, not the land of the nuns.

Since the post was mostly to show off my new Dr. Who 10 icon. It's not fantastic, but it's better than the old one.

I've also got an alternate one, which is this Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

In both, I wish I had something that could sharpen up his face because I think it might make the icon better.

Other than that, I've finally managed to hear the Eurovision winner (to be found here for those that haven't http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py5Of-4kJ70). It's the kind of madness that makes me happy to be alive. I mean, seriously, who would expect a song that sounds like Alice Cooper's 'Poison' sung by lunatic Finns who more resemble the cartoony end of death metal to win Eurovision, more usually the domain of disco-pop.

Much glee at this end.

Having seen and heard of Kane's May 19th related freak out, I leave it to your imaginations to guess how amused I was by a radio advert that declared that May 19th was the deadline for employers to get their PAYE papers in. I can now see why he is having a fit, he's worried that he hasn't filled out forms properly.
