AU Meme - Day 15 - Sex-Swap

Characters: Adam Page and Kenny Omega
Rating: Gen fic
Notes: In keeping with the meme, this is "always a woman Page", to use the AO3 tagging nomenclature.
Important changes from reality that you don't need to know to enjoy this:
1 - It's Pac that Jericho beats for the World title. As you can imagine, Pac's reaction to this is somewhat different to Page's in our universe.
2 - Page loses to Nyla - Alice Page reacts pretty much like Adam does.
3 - While she's mid-crisis of confidence, she suggests to Omega that they form a tag team. Kenny agrees because he thinks it'll be fun while he's finding out if he's capable of putting a World title attempt together and there's no reason why it wouldn't work. If someone had asked him beforehand, he would have suggested one of the Joshis but he knows that they wouldn't have been given the credit they deserved if he did that, while he doesn't think Page will have that problem.
Alice sits up on the sofa. She's been lying against the arm while Kenny's sat cross-legged playing on the Xbox.
"I've been thinking." And that wasn't ever a good start to a sentence. Because when Alice said she'd been thinking, it would be something negative. Alice would shout at any friend she heard talking about themselves the way she thought about herself, but she didn't seem to be able to kick out of the vicious cycle of negative self-talk.
"Yeah." Kenny toggled the game on pause.
Alice was hesitant. "How d'ya feel if I went for the World title?"
"You versus Hikaru? It'd be a great match." It would be, because Alice was a lot more than the smash-mouth brawler people sometimes painted her to be, and Hikaru wouldn't even take half a step back from any violence that was brought.
"No, I mean *the* belt."
She must have put some thought into it, because, well she's Alice and she always puts almost too much thought into everything.
Kenny's forced into a corner - whatever he says will be wrong and Alice won't be satisfied by generally agreeable noises.
It's not a terrible idea, Alice is no shorter than Pac, and he'd literally bite anyone who told him he was too small for the title. Will anyone she goes up against try and make her life a misery? Yeah, and she could stand to be tougher if she's going to try it.
But ...
Alice must have decided he was taking so long to answer because he's trying to find a way of politely trying to say no. She turned away and started to curl up, "you're right, it's a terrible idea."
He puts a hand on her ankle. "It's not that. But we're still the tag champions, right?"
"Like that's going to last. I don't mean losing the titles," they've had to win them back once already, "but I've seen you looking, I've seen you up your game. Are the tag titles going to be enough for you?" Kenny had forgotten that Alice pays attention to everything, it's as much part of what makes her tick as the overthinking, and it means she's hit the heart of the problem. Kenny's had enough time to recover, he does think he might be capable of a run at the title and he doesn't want to go through his tag partner to get it. He will if she gets in the way, but he'd prefer not to.
It's probably the beginning of the end.
End notes: Basically, I was thinking about this, and thinking about a first name for Page, and I thought, you know, Eve for Adam, and then I realised the kind of storylines a female wrestler called Eve would get lumbered with and female Page would have no time for that. Even if her "real" name was Eve, she'd not go by it.
So suddenly I had this really solid idea of who Alice Page was and how differently a lot of the Adam Page characteristics would be treated if he was female, and then I wanted to write all the stories. So this has been added to my "to write" pile, but then again I am still working through 2013 ideas so don't hold your breath.
