I promise I did at least write this on Friday
Fandom:Wrestling
Characters: Cody Rhodes (I mean, come on, golden opportunity)
Rating/Warning: gen fic
Cody shut the door on his grey locker at headquarters.
At least that part of the job hadn't changed while he'd been gone. Every agent's morning ritual - arrive, leave all the things from the outside word in your locker, and prepare for a day of debriefing, watching, briefing or mission prep, depending on where you were in the mission cycle.
His mission cycle had just lasted longer than most, six years under and only now coming up for air. He was still very much in the debriefing part.
He's not sure that any of the other agents actually believe he's back from a mission. They see someone who turned traitor, only allowed back because of his family's history with the Agency.
Cody supposed that was a compliment of sort, he'd been convincing enough that people believed he'd really gone over to the other side.
When the mission had first been suggested, hush hush in the expensive offices, he'd realised why they told him so early, why he had to be the one on this job. The Rhodes boys, best damn field agents the Agency had and they got it from their father.
And Cody had done it all, everything that had been asked of him.
What he hadn't been expecting was how it would feel to be back.
The mission had been deep infiltration, chickenfeed sent over pretending to be gold, Cody's life depending on the opposition believing in the fool's gold, then, once he'd got their trust, working for the opposition till he could come back with as much information as possible, one strong strike against them. He'd been told to use any means necessary, and that the mission was of triple A paramount importance. He'd tried to limit Agency losses, when he could, when he'd been involved from the opposition side, but he'd had a mission to fulfill.
But how many of the agents watching him with undisguised distrust had been partners of agent lost, had their informants exposed, had been the people behind the the plans Cody had blown ... the information had to have been worth it.
