AU Meme - Day 5 - School

Um, yeah, this is one of those AUs I don't understand. I mean, I didn't have a totally horrible time at school, but I have no reason to set fic there for the characters to be schoolchildren, and I've found most teacher AUs don't work because either the characters don't work for the role or because the authors don't capture the feel of schools quite right. (Notable exception, there was a really good Law and Order AU where they were teachers instead of police, would link but have managed to lose it).
The other interesting thing I find, although this is probably changing with the rise of K-Pop fandoms, is how often even fans from non-US countries set high school AUs in generic US high schools.

Date: 2022-05-07 05:47 pm (UTC)Part of me does want to shout "no, give me these characters in your educational system", give me the best friends split up at 11 when one goes the Gymnasium and one goes to a technische Hochschule, give me the 18 year old rebelling by going to art school rather than medicine because he can do anything as long as he has his Matura (or, as it's know, why a terrifying number of Austrian med grads are taxi drivers).
