Day 24 - Best Quote

This is a difficult one, again. Because I don't want to choose. For me, it'd be up in the air between Babylon 5, Buffy and Firefly.

Buffy and Firefly tend to be the ones I use, but Babylon 5 has some crackers too.

Some B5 quotes I really like )

That, by the by, is only a short selection.

And now for Buffy )

Annoyingly, IMDB have cut down their quote section for Buffy, however Sunnydale Slayers still exists (http://www.neon-hummingbird.com/suns/quotes.html). Oh SunS, the hours I spent on your site as an adolescent.

I know it's valley-speak, I know it's not realistic. But I don't care because it sounds good, and I do occasionally use it.

However, pride of place has to go to my Mother's favourite Buffy quote (I have done many terrible things to my mother, getting her hooked on Buffy may have been the worst).

Buffy: Remember: The ritual starts, we all die; and I'll kill anyone who comes near Dawn.
Spike: Well, not exactly the St. Crispin's Day speech, was it?
Giles: We few, we happy few...
Spike: ...we band of buggered.

Every time I type one in, I think of three more, so I am stopping now.

Firefly Quotes )

The other quote I'd like to mention is "too much hair", which is normally how housemate P greeted me in a morning when my hair was in attack mode.

My mother hates Firefly, she doesn't take well to sci-fi and blames it entirely for the word 'shiny' becoming part of my vocabulary.

Didn't watch any Firefly today but that just means I can talk about Safe because I saw it yesterday.

Safe, cut because it's nearly all spoilers )

Firefly Ep - Shindig

It does of course contain that which I love the most. A sword fight.
And some fantastic Kaylee scenes Spoilers )

One question - Edward Atterton who played Atherton Wing is still one of the least chariasmatic actors I've ever seen on stage, why the hell did someone cast him as King Arthur?

On a much more chariasmatic acting note - I have for much time heard about the Lord Byron episode of Highlander and was told of the attractiveness of Byron and the blatent they slept togetheriness of him and Methos.

The thing people did not mention was that Jonathan Firth was playing Byron. Now, rather unnervingly, this was the second time I've heard him playing Byron (the other was on the radio) and well, I'm all a-squee.

I actually also want to kiss some of the creative types because they gave Byron a club foot. Thank you, whoever.

Gosh, I'm so easily pleased sometimes.

Wrestling - TNA 25/03/2006

Somehow, I think that TNA have managed the impossible and have made Scott Steiner seem freaking terrifying again. Please excuse me while I anti-mark out (whatever you call it for guys you love to hate.)

Also I love the horror that the commentators manage. I mean in WWE there'd be gallons of blood, here Mike Tenay or Don West yelling, 'Stop it, just stop it' and sounding like they meant gave me goosebumps. Well done them.

Plus, you all know I'm enjoying the concept of Sting v Jarrett. I loved the bit at the end of his promo vid where Sting's all, "oh and someone tell Jarrett that it won't be Steve Borden coming to Lockdown, it'll be Sting".

There was cheering.

And pondering that at least half the wrestlers seem to have split personalities ;)

It's pretty much all spoilers )

And about the Reavers, with Movie Spoilers )

I also knew there was a thing I should have said about The Train Job. The terrifying Space Monkeys quote still rocks.
redfiona99: (wrestling)
Me squeaking about Firefly and me squeaking about TNA wrestling.

Firefly first:

2nd episode - "The Train Job"

I still love the barfight at the beginning, and I love how they didn't win. As someone who was brought up a Jacobite I can somewhat understand Mal's urge to get into trouble.

Zoe rocks so much in this episode. Because she is willing to point out to Mal that what he's doing is stupid but still back him up 100%.

I also like that Simon used his smarts rather than any strength that doesn't really exist.

I'm becoming more and more aware that Book is probably my favourite character. Which worries me. Him and Inara have a fantastic vibe going on.

Onto the spoilery plot part )

Onto the TNA stuff, it was TWC referred to as "Classic" TNA. It was from 2003, the 7th of May to be exact, and yes I did go and look it up.

It was the one with the 16 man gauntlet for gold that Glenn Gilberti won.

But as you can guess, the match that I spent most of my energy over was James Storm v Chris Harris. And the dissent within AMW. Because it caused the bad squeaking because it's just wrong damn it.

It was all "please trust me", "I do, except you're hanging out with the enemy so really, how can I trust you." And then the clincher "Whatever happens you'll always be my friend." I made with the worried, happy squeaking, even though I know they're still a tag team.

I also really loved the ending of their match:
Storm wins, offers his hand, Harris walks away in a huff, Storm looks at him in digust and starts celebrating on the turnbuckles. Harris thinks better of it and goes back, shakes his hand, raises Storm's hand in victory and pulls him into a hug.

I'm not certain what I liked most, the idea of what the match meant to Harris that he was willing to stomp off and sulk about it, showing how much even a vague chance to be number 1 contender means or whether it was because you could tell that they were friends because in order to attract Storm's attention Harris doesn't touch him on the back or tap him on the arm, shoulder or leg. No, he pulls his trunks.

Okay, how you can tell this was made long, long ago. Jarrett is a face!
And Erik Watts is the big evil. The crazy big evil. WTF was he on about half the time?

And I must also squeak about the ending because when Gilberti was held up by the Harris brothers everyone around him, like Elix Skipper and Sonny Siaki all looked so happy for him. It's little moments like that that I like.

Also, in personal news, Newcastle don't want me for a PhD. I think I should be more upset than I am except the project wasn't really my thing, I wasn't expecting it because I didn't think he liked me and dude, I got to watch TNA and that always blows the blues away.

Since I am now in a position to watch my shiny, shiny Firefly DVDs, I shall do so.

And, unfortunately for you, I shall post my thoughts.

1 - Finally got to see all of the first episode. I had previously missed the very beginning so I finally got to see the battle of Serenity Valley. Okay, I officially want to hug Mal now. About Serenity Valley )

2 - I was struck by how unlikeable Mal comes across. Because in pretty much every scene up to about half way through and spoiler ) he seems so overbearing, irritable and plain old unpleasent. For good reasons, but still a pain in the ass.

And then he suddenly, but organically, becomes less so. That's one of the things I like about the series, the characters are smart, stupid, brilliant, dumb, annoying, amusing, cruel and kind, often all at the same time, and that's what makes them interesting.

3 - Okay, I'm sorry, given my occasionally rants about Hardy incest fics, but I'm all about the Crazy Space incest.

4 - Also, I love the theme tune. The theme tune was my original hook into the programme.

5 - About the good Shepard, complete with much love and movie spoilers )

6 - Leading on from that. I love the shades of grey, to quote my Grandmother, "He's not exactly Robin Hood". They are not bad people doing bad things, they're not good people doing bad things, they're people doing things that they have to. I also like how the Alliance isn't made up of obviously evil people.

7 - Spoilers for a scene of great suspense )

8 - I now recall why I spent a lot of time yelling at the TV to tell Mal and Inara to kiss already.

9 - I am, of course, in love with Zoe and Wash, and Kaylee, and Jayne. Feel the love. It's also nice to have a happily married couple about.

Someone remind me that I don't need the complete set of Firefly and Serenity when it comes out, even though Amazon are doing a good deal on the two combined £32.48 (about $55).

Mama wants.

Serenity

Since there's nothing I can say without it being spoilers Without further ado - Serenity )

Finally seen the Firefly trailer - thanks Fileg - and wow, I wanna see it. Really, I like what Joss has done with the money, he has made pretty graphics. I don't know if it was the trailer or what but Mal's voice sounds different.

And River is all kinds of kick ass pretty.

I see why Joss was saying that there wasn't enough Kaylee or Book

Spoiler )

And whee Chiwetel Ejiofor, he's such a good actor.

So yes, up-coming film watching, Kingdom of Heaven, Star Wars, Batman and Serenity. Anything I forgot?

Oh and I just made a reply to something someone else said that'll probably have me curse by both sides of the argument, but I stick to what I said.

The heat lump on my foot is still yellow but I'm going to the walk-in centre tomorrow so hopefully something will be done and it will clear up. In the meantime I'm considering a tourniquet so it'll stop itching.

I was reading the foreign newspapers section of Ceefax, and there was a snippet from on of the Hungarian papers. This doctor is having to ask people to donate rubber gloves and tissues for his surgery. And then the paper says at least it's not as bad as in the UK.

There is something either heartwarming or worrying about that and I haven't decided which.

On a happier note - I really like the new Anthrax song, even if I can't watch the video without wondering if that is Keanu Reeves.

I must get this month's edition of Total Film, because not only does it have an interview with Joachim Poenix, but it also contains a photo of the new Thunderbirds film.

Ben Kingsley is playing the Hood, and looks so right for the part. Plus Jonathan Frakes is directing and whatever else I say about him, he's a good director.

But best of all, they've got the brothers more or less right. Okay so I guessed which one was Scott and John because one of them looked way older than the rest (Scott) and one of them had sticky-up blond hair (John). Allan was easy because he's the young cute one. That left Virgil and Gordon, and there's one non-descript guy who'd be perfect for Virgil and another guy who is almost cute enough to be Gordon.

Yes, my first crush was a puppet. But Gordon was fun.

Knowing my luck of course, they'll all be different to what I've guessed them as. And if you think I've been hard on the Potter casting director, you ought to have heard me in RL about this film.

If I find any pics on the net, I'll post links.

Firefly made me cry. Now in all the years of Buffy never once has that happened. Hence I'm feeling particularly bitter towards TV execs at the minute.

Except they've just shown an episode of 'Dinnerladies' which is one of the best comedy shows ever. If you get the chance, catch an episode. Some of it is quite North of England centric but most of it is easy to follow.

On a related note, to those Yanks finally getting into football thanks to the Manchester United moneymaking shindig, shouting 'go Manchester' is inappropriate due to there being two Manchester teams. It would be like watching baseball and shouting 'Go New York'. Plus, don't cheer for United, they are evil.

Okay, so they're not, but they have just been charged with shirt price fixing, along with JJB Sports, who just happen to sponsor Wigan, Saint's arch-rivals. Mass jubilation followed.

Zoe to Mal on Firefly. The whole episode was really funny. In a very wierd way, since most of it involved death and torture.

But anyhow, I have found out that I am in love with the show and it joins Brimstone on the list of programmes that the stupid TV channels made great mistakes in cancelling.

Jan Ullrich is now only 15 seconds behind Lance.

Smackdown thoughts )

Oh and for anyone looking for music recs, try these,

Breed 77 - La Ultima Hora, imagine SOAD but with Spanish influences.

Sugarcult - Bouncing Off The Walls, with a ridiculously catchy chorus.
