Day 24 - Best Quote

This is a difficult one, again. Because I don't want to choose. For me, it'd be up in the air between Babylon 5, Buffy and Firefly.

Buffy and Firefly tend to be the ones I use, but Babylon 5 has some crackers too.

Some B5 quotes I really like )

That, by the by, is only a short selection.

And now for Buffy )

Annoyingly, IMDB have cut down their quote section for Buffy, however Sunnydale Slayers still exists (http://www.neon-hummingbird.com/suns/quotes.html). Oh SunS, the hours I spent on your site as an adolescent.

I know it's valley-speak, I know it's not realistic. But I don't care because it sounds good, and I do occasionally use it.

However, pride of place has to go to my Mother's favourite Buffy quote (I have done many terrible things to my mother, getting her hooked on Buffy may have been the worst).

Buffy: Remember: The ritual starts, we all die; and I'll kill anyone who comes near Dawn.
Spike: Well, not exactly the St. Crispin's Day speech, was it?
Giles: We few, we happy few...
Spike: ...we band of buggered.

Every time I type one in, I think of three more, so I am stopping now.

Firefly Quotes )

The other quote I'd like to mention is "too much hair", which is normally how housemate P greeted me in a morning when my hair was in attack mode.

My mother hates Firefly, she doesn't take well to sci-fi and blames it entirely for the word 'shiny' becoming part of my vocabulary.

Day 16 - A Song You Used To Love But Now Hate

First, some modifications - this is more a song I got sick of at the time. I like it again now that it's not on the radio every five seconds.

Football:

I was right, the minute one of the "big" teams gets a goal disallowed due to the goal line problem, there's going to be another review. Ah, Sepp, so transparent.

I've also discovered that even in a match where I don't care who wins, I still hate seeing people go out on penalties. Poor Japan.

Other than that, I have no idea what to predict for the quarters.

Netherlands v Brazil - if this were the old school Dutch and the old school Brazilians I'd say Brazil without a moments doubt, now, I'm not so sure.

Ghana v Uruguay - talk about a team where I want both sides to win. I can see this going either way, because Ghana have a nice solid defence and Uruguay have a very patient and potent attack.

Argentina v Germany - Argentina ought to win this, and yet, the Germans are the Germans.

Spain v Paraguay - Vamos Paraguay I say. It's not going to happen, but I can hope, right.

Babylon 5:

Amusingly, given that [livejournal.com profile] opera142 has just started watching it and [livejournal.com profile] evilgmbethy was thinking about starting watching it, my housemate has started his rewatch of Babylon 5.

Which meant I got to see the pilot again. Now, it has it's weaknesses, but damnit it if doesn't have some awesome moments, Londo's shark-related speech to Garibaldi in particular. It also gives you something new each time. For instance, Spoilers )

I also think that it gained something by the enforced re-casting because it meant that instead of the usual problem that early episodes of shows have where it's all 'you, my friend that I have known for 10 years, let me ask you this question that I should know the answer to already', it's 'you, new person, I need to know this about you,' and the new person is being guarded because they don't know that person yet.

There's also some interesting things if you know what happens to some of the characters. More Spoilers )

I also keep forgetting how obnoxious, if justifiably so, G'Kar is at the start.

Just seen the Season 5 episode 'The Day of the Dead' which I hadn't seen before, and it rocked. It was truly wierd, but the good sort of wierd. So I look it up on the Lurker's Guide (address http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/lurker.html , truly one of the best television show sites out there) and it turns out that Neil Gaiman wrote the script.

So now I find I must go on a comics hunt because if he can write this well with someone else's toys, he must be really good with his own characters.

Plus he did something with the Bakiri, which is always good.
