Notthat I feel that bad any more, but you know what they say, better out than in.

CSI:New York )

Dear friend in RL,

You come down, giving me ~ 14 hrs warning, instead of the 14 days I tend to demand because my house is a tip. I let you stay. You complain about the state of the flat. Not going to complain about that, because hey, tip. However, when you then try and make me feel bad by saying you worry that it'll affect how your mother sees me. I'm sorry, but the suggestions, demands, hints, pleas and orders of my own mother and grandmother have yet to make me tidy, why the fuck do you think I'd care what your mother thinks?! With no offense to the lady, who I do know, but really!

(There are many reasons I would never, ever sleep with or date this guy, but that he expects tidiness is one of them. I regard being a slattern (provided it inconveniences no one else) as something I have every right to be.)

Dear Self,

Stop eating so much. I know why (I appear to be bedding in for winter), but eating as much as a panda bear is bad for you.

Dear whoever it is in my block of flats that leaves at about 7 in the morning. Be more quiet.

Dear UK record buying public, why have you bought more of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_oLfC5Z_Ys - Professor Green and Emeli Sande - Read All About It, when it's a poor Eminem re-tread (down to our wailing woman of chorus sorrow) when you could be buying this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0fk6syQ7iY&ob=av3e Labrinth - Earthquake - which is, to quote a friend, criminally good.

Utterly un-related, but watching the Longest Yard - did they just grab wrestlers wholesale, 'cause so far I've spotted Goldberg, Austin, Kevin Nash and the Great Khali.

Or why I have no such fear.

(A minor TMI warning - for those who wish to avoid the TMI, skip the first paragraph)

Then again my Friday the thirteenth started quite badly on Thursday when my bowels decided to try to escape without warning. Not good times. Worryingly, this is the second time in two months this has happened the day before my period starts. Dear body, we are 26, new symptoms are not required or expected.

Anyway, so I have maybe 3 hours of sleep the night before my final corrections, which I'm expecting to be horrible. I catch the train, a different one than the expected on because the trainline lies.

During this I get a Red Bull shot drink freebie. Now I still say that Red Bull tastes worse than anything you should ever consume, unless you're taking a medicine, and we know that they all taste terrible, however, at five to eight in the morning, when you've been ill all night and you cannot cope with the idea of food, but you need sugar and caffeine, it's a life saver.

So I get to Leicester, and internal examiner is not in yet so I have to sweet talk my way into the building. Not a problem.

I get the corrections, they're done in a couple of hours, and I'm printed out by three, and fully submitted by four.

Silly hat day is go.

(Or, for those who haven't seen the headwear that PhD graduands have to wear, graduation is go.)

CSI:NY -

Can't really get to liking Hawkes's new girlfriend in CSI:NY because she reminds me so much of ex-housemate's girlfriend. You know, my-fun-is-more-important-than-your-work girl. Argh!! Then again Sheldon being all 'can't say no dude' is not helping either.

I see the idiot writers are back. Half the characters are acting like themselves, and half of them are totally wrong. And Not-Stella is still a judgemental know-it-all.

Dude, Mac is now a chilled person. It's freaking wierd. Good but weird.

Bonus:

No CSI: Miami, atomic force microscopy does not work like that.

Mostly for Twig, but the TV adverts for Blitz are starting showing (it's out the 20th of May). I am mostly unimpressed. I have no idea how you do that given that I <3 one of the actors in it, and am v. fond of another one, but fail, TV advert maker, fail!

Still not sure whether or not to go and see it, part of me says yes, because how am I supposed to resist, part of me says no, not least of all because I have no idea where the local cinema is.

~~~~
In terms of TV that's caught my eye, my Sunday night sleep-plan is presently being wrecked by 'The Shadow Line' which is brewing up nice and slowly into something complex.
It features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Christopher Ecclestone, and five hundred different you know, that guys.
The opening scene with David Schofield (or creepy guy from Pirates 2 as you might know him) basically monologuing was a work of genius.
I spent the whole of the first episode hoping something horrible would happen to Jay Wratten, played by Rafe Spall. Partly it's that Rafe Spall has the most unfortunately punchable face. Partly it's that his character is a little Caligula thinks he's so tough when he's really not, and he keeps getting into confrontations with people who are far more dangerous and they're not smacking him, for their own reasons and I think not smacking him is only going to rebound badly on them later.
Comedians - Dave Fulton is looking old. I remember when he had long black hair.
As a general point, since I no longer have the time to watch late night tv the way I used to, I have to rely on Mock the Week and the other stand up shows to find out about the new, upandcomers, and mostly I'm not impressed, with the exception of Andi Osha.
The problem is, the way I see it, half of them have only one schtick and that's 'look, I'm posh and yet I swear', which is not funny to me. The other half are funnier but not much, including a fair few who are poor re-treads of other people's stuff.
(Honourable exception is Tommy Flanagan, who is funny, but just has a really unfortunate voice. My issues with him are not his fault.)
~~~~

Motorbikes - oh BBC commentators, how I love you. Calling Simoncelli Side-Show Bob is naughty but funny.

The trouble is that much like Ruben Xaus, there's a lot of Simoncelli so occasionally he takes stupid lines. (And he now has a reputation.)

It looks like there's going to be a punch up between a team manager and the stewards. I have seen that walk before.

Dani Pedrosa has pulled an Uncle Ste - my Uncle broke one collarbone, had it fixed, then broke the other one. I hope Pedrosa doesn't finish the cycle, because my Uncle then broke the first collarbone again but it only fractured and healed really quickly because it was in exactly the same place.

I am not blaming not!Stella, but, because there's a new character they need to make seem as awesome as the main cast, and they've not had a chance to run the character in a la Langston in CSI:Vegas, there's an awful lot of the other characters being made to seem stupid to make her look good. It's particularly egregious in the case of Montana, who is excessively perky, yes, but not stupid, and she's not knowing stuff that you know she'd know.

Gah! Internal organs feel wretched.

Other than that, the last set of meme answers unless anyone else wants any. Both are for Fileg.

4 1/2 Unpopular Opinions about CSI

1 - CSI: Miami is the worst programme on TV that isn't a reality TV show. Really, it has no redeeming features and I feel so sorry for Emily Proctor being stuck in it.
2 - In regards to CSI:Vegas, I like Sara. And I totally don't blame Gil for going after her.
3 - I don't get Mac/Danny in CSI:New York.
4 - My order of preference goes Vegas, NY, dental visits, having my hair pulled out, watching paint dry and then Miami.
4b - NY does have the best theme tune though.

3 and a bit unpopular opinions about Lord Of The Rings

1 - Boromir was not a bad guy. Misguided as all get out, but not a bad guy.
2 - I don't trust the elves.
3 - The changes that Peter Jackson made for the films were probably vital to make it into something that could be filmed.
3b - Yes, even Arwen.
3c - And Tom Bombadill who is scary than Sauron in the books.

Doctor Who was deeply cool. Not as scary as some would suggest, but that is, I think because it didn't set off any of my fear triggers (see this post for details - http://redfiona99.livejournal.com/329972.html#cutid1) But still deeply cool )

So, in short (because what's under that cut is seriously long), I liked this episodes guest Humans a lot, and I worry about them. And the Ood, I was very fond of the Ood.

CSI: New York "The Supermen" (Season 2, episode 19) was also stonkingly good. Spoilers )

Daredevil

Was not as bad as expected. I mean seriously, what did Ben Affleck do to annoy the critics that much that they panned this for no good reason. Although Daredevil, the character, reminded me why I like Batman, I like my costumed freaks to be actual freaks when they're out of costume, Matt Murdock is unnervingly normal.

I really liked Joe Pantaliano's character, yay for investigative journalists.

Bullseye reminded me oddly of the Kurgan, in the way he really did live for killing and chaos and all the bad things. And Kingpin was the same, evil through and through (although I willing to put money on Welsey being the journalist's inside source. Interesting casting though, given what the Kingpin looks like in the comics. But that's because Michael Clarke Duncan is fabulous and therefore should be cast in everything.

As to my filthy housemate, she is officially never allowed to complain about my mess again, given that she left a used sanitary towel (in a bag thankfully) in the bathroom. Seriously, she complains, I will bitch back this time.

Doctor Who was so good eeeee! (Okay, the 1st half hour, not so good, the last 15 minutes excellent)
CSI:NY eeee
House also eeee (Sky plus is also eeeee for it means taping without tape, which is good since the new video machine is of Satan and will not be programmed to tape.)
Smackdown tonight was the special eee, due to Tazz and ECW and the draft pick who probably still counts as a spoiler but who is especially eeee, and also Cole and Tazz are soooooooooooo married. It came across even more than usual.

No uniform v plain-clothes angst for Flack. In fact, no matter how pretty he gets when flushed with emotion, no angst for Flack. I want him safe and wrapped up warm in bed at the end of the night. I also fear that one of his amigos is not exactly playing by the rule of law. He's also getting mentor angst in this one. Oh great!

Mac is being no help as per usual.

Why, other than the science, I am addicted to CSI: New York

Dear St. Helens board when the fans object, when the rest of the board objects, when even the Wigan coach thinks you're being a little bit too harsh it might be an idea to reinstate the coach.

In short the chief exec and the chairman have suspended the Saints coach nominally for swearing loudly at everyone, but actually just because he doesn't get on with them.

The fans are objecting to this. Loudly, with a 1 hour long sit in after the last match. Saints fans have boycotted matches for less.

We had an internet outage which disturbed me greatly.

Mostly been revising and working on fic.

Dr. Who was good tonight. Suitably bizarre.

CSI: NY was also good, mainly because it had Frick and Flack (or Danny and Flack) working on the case together. Much Danny love, and much Flack love. Much NY love in general.

Lizzie did you watch the Chelsea celebration today? I tell you that Didier Drogba looks unnervingly like Denise Lewis, to the point of me wanting to know if she was a fan when I saw him.

BBC also said that Joe Cole was the only player on the pitch who had been any good.
redfiona99: (Default)
watching CSI:NY was definitely worth it, 'cause wheee Danny story line. I have no idea what Danny's surname is (he's the dirty blond with glasses) and he's so very cool. And the guy can act.

Plus a De Luise acting his socks off which means of course that he was very, very, very good.
redfiona99: (Default)
It's just I'd like to take this time to say how much I love the cinematography on CSI:New York. And Gary Sinise, but we all knew he was great anyhow. I'm still confused by the set up, is Mike Taylor a cop or a CSI, but no doubt all will be explained.
