2025 in Review Memes
Feb. 24th, 2026 10:32 pmThat it's almost March is a sign of RL bad things.
1) Was 2025 a good year for you?
Not as bad as 2024. That is a very low bar.
2) What was your favourite moment of the year?
3rd at the Merseyside following a very hard-fought semi final will take some beating. Third at the Shrop maybe, after an even harder-fought semi maybe.
I finally got to meet an old online acquaintance in RL. Sort of visited the Atominum which has always been on the to do list.
3) What was your least favourite moment of the year?
RL bad things. Figuring out how to reduce the impact of future and unfortunately somewhat inevitable RL bad things.
4) Where were you when 2025 began?
5) Who were you with?
In Bradford, with the mothership and (unfortunately) the boy cousin.
6) Where will you be when 2025 ends? / Where were you when 2025 ended?
7) Who will you be with when 2025 ends? / Who were you with when 2025 ended?
In Birmingham, with the same. And let me assure you the brackets remain.
8) Did you keep your new years resolution of 2025?
Some of them. The flat is still not tidy. It is no longer my fault.
9) Do you have a new years resolution for 2026?
Not a proper one, but I'm aiming for an all time squat PB.
10) Did you fall in love in 2025?
No.
11) If yes, with who?
12) If yes, do they know?
13) Do you regret it?
14) Did you breakup with anyone in 2025?
No.
15) Did you make any new friends in 2025?
RL time has been limited, but I'd say yes, one work friend and a couple of the new intake of fencers.
16) Who are your favourite new friends?
We don't play favourites in this house.
17) What was your favourite month of 2025?
May was good.
18) Did you travel outside of theUS UK in 2025?
Only once, to Belgium with work.
19) How many different states did you travel to in 2025?
0, the work trip planned for the US got cancelled.
20) Did you lose anybody close to you in 2025?
The notorious aunt by marriage. Giant heart attack in the middle of the night.
21) Did you miss anybody in the past year?
Ex-colleague A. Ex-colleague F. The Friday office posse is no more and it feels odd.
22) What was your favourite movie that you saw in 2025?
Flow. Flow so very much.
23) What was your favourite song from 2025?
For RL bad things reasons, I remain utterly disconnected from popular music culture. Recommendations gratefully accepted.
24) What was your favourite record from 2025?
See previous.
25) How many concerts did you see in 2025?
One - Gogol Bordello supporting the Dropkick Murphys - totally worth it.
26) Did you have a favourite concert in 2025?
Only got to see one. But it was a good 'un.
27) What was your favourite book of 2025?
I have failed on the reading front unless you're counting long dead mystery authors.
28) Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2025?
No, mostly for RL bad things reasons. Or related to that and me going "fuck you and your drunken ass".
29) Did you do a lot of drugs in 2025?
No.
30) How many people did you sleep with in 2025?
0
31) Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
Not really.
32) What was the worst lie someone told you in 2025?
The Boy Cousin continues to be the reigning champion at this. It would be less bad if he could keep his lies straight.
33) Did you treat somebody badly in 2025?
I should be kinder. People make it difficult sometimes.
34) Did somebody treat you badly in 2025?
Yes, but he'll never admit it so I am not wasting time over anger (at this moment. I have spent plenty of time getting here).
35) How much money did you spend in 2025?
Too much, for RL bad things reasons, but I also managed to build up the disaster fund again within 9 months so I'm counting that as a win.
36) What was your proudest moment of 2025?
Given carte blanche that I don't need to get my things approved by the CEO when they're CEO level stuff. Terrifying but awesome!
37) If you could go back in time to any moment of 2025 and change something, what would it be?
None of the answers are good.
38) What are your plans for 2026?
Pay off more than the minimum of the mortgage, manage a big change at work, fence better, all time PB in one of the big 3 lifts, try to find a solution for an insoluble family issue.

7 big fics, 10 3 sentence fics. Less than I might have hoped for but see also, RL bad thing.
My favourite story this year:
Probably "We All Began As Something Else", but I also like "Price Willingly Paid".
My best story this year:
People really liked "We All Began As Something Else". Which makes me happy because it's "my feelings about the Purifier, the fic".
Story most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Can I cheat slightly and say "all of the Soldier of Tomorrow series (https://archiveofourown.org/series/4307056)" that 'Price Willingly Paid' and 'Don't Look Back' belong to. Because it has something I would expect to cause more eyeballs than usual (Steve, Bucky) and yet, nope.
Most fun story: The long fics are all not fun like that - a pattern I had not noticed till now - the Boaty McBoatface one is :)
Most sexy story: Only one sexy story, and that was "The Oak and the Mistletoe". Reading over what's due next, hopefully that will change.
Story with single sexiest moment: It's "The Oak and the Mistletoe" even if something else had had anything sexy in it, just because I love the idea of them being naked in the psychosocial sense as well as the physical and the people you can be naked with.
Hardest story to write: Most of those were reasonably easy to write. Like I said in the 2024 WIP write up (https://redfiona99.dreamwidth.org/1378210.html) clearing out those stuck fics really opened up a solid run of fics that were relatively straight-forward to write.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: I refuse to call "It's Always You And Me, Always and Forever" wrong. … we'll just ignore the various bits of identity theft in it … It's canonical *wrong*.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Most of these fics where ones I'd done a lot of pre-thinking so none really.
Biggest disappointment: Twenty Years Later does quite do what I wanted it to do.
Biggest surprise: Using hits on AO3 as the metric, "Twenty Years Later" was my biggest hit. Which makes no sense. I mean I like the fic (even if bits of it don't quite hit where I'd want it to hit quite - see above) but I didn't expect Blade Trinity, Zoe Summerfield-centric future fic to be a gap that fandom wanted filling.
Most unintentionally telling story: Hi Chris Sabin, I didn't intended to give you all my broken leg trauma, really I didn't.
