I may be slowing defeating the crochet demon but I need to know, is it supposed to lie flat? When I do squares they come out ... ridged. Are you supposed to not turn or turn the piece at the end of each row? I think it's one of those obvious questions that are too obvious for the crochet magazines to mention.

Yay crochet questions!

Yes, you turn. Depending on the pattern, there will be a wrong side and a right side. You usually end the row with a couple of chain stitches (how many depends on what stitch you're doing) then turn and work back.

Do you mean ridged, like, it's ribbed? That happens if you're only working through one loop instead of two of the little arrowheads at the top of your row.
