Cartoon image of me as a Star Trek calendar. The cartoon is holding a tricorder and has Klingon style hair and eyebrows.

There is a reason my mini-me done a la Star Trek: Lower Decks is wearing Science blue.

Klingon hair and eyebrows are the model's own (or I saw them and couldn't resist).

To avoid spoiling the surprise for people who haven't seen it yet, but making it clear for those who have ... the moment Dr. Bashir walks through the door.

Yes, that bit.

Apparently the early December 2024 nonsense really did scramble my brain and I missed doing this:

January - My top 10 films of 2023
February - Plotters vs Pantsers
March - Saints Ahoy - Visualisations from game 2 and the season to date Oh did that ever end up falling behind because of RL bad things
April - I am still not dead
May - I didn't post anything, see also RL bad things
June - Saints Ahoy - Visualisations from game 7 and the season to date
July - Euro 2024 Network Diagram - Quarterfinals
August - Back from Chicago
September - Saints Ahoy - Visualisations up to game 11
October - New Laptop
November - Fandom data viz
December - Fandom data viz

I am blaming slowness of everything on RL bad things.

best-spock-leonard-nimoy-star-trek-episodes

Spock, Spock, Spockety Spock

With some narrowing down to Leonard Nimoy Spock. Because Zachary Quinto Spock is doing his best with a badly written version, and I haven't seen Discovery and Strange New Worlds so can't comment on their versions (as I said, more complaining about that on Discovery's day).

But I love Spock and all his complications and hypocrisies and his relationship with McCoy and Kirk and how far he will go for Christopher Pike.

<3 Spock

~~~~
For TNG it would be Data (for an awful lot of the same reasons).
DS9 would probably be Major Kira. But that's a probably because I love several characters.
Voyager is my dear darling Neelix.
I still haven't seen enough of Enterprise to really have a favourite, and anyone who points out that it is so obviously Reed or Hoshi will be ignored because they are right.
I am all about the Klingon nonsense.
No, really.
I would like to try a bat'leth some day, have long suspected gaah would be delicious, ditto blood wine, and Klingon opera can't be worse than the Earth version.
Martok, and his trials, are one of my favourite parts of DS9.
I <3 Klingon nonsense.
There was an article a couple of years ago that did a top x TNG episodes, that I can't find now (argh!). Anyway, part of the way through, when it was obvious that the top two were going to be "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" and "Inner Light", one of the compilers complained that they weren't "Star Trek" episodes. Which was obvious nonsense, because "to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations" is right there in the intro.
And TNG does that, probably better than the others, it actually thinks of ways other civilisations might be different, as in Darmok, when they communicate in a different way.
Those are my favourite episodes, where the crew have to handle the different, and the way they sometimes don't, or it takes them a long time to do it.
Several of my favourites are the ones everyone else hates or doesn't rate, where there's a odd alien culture and weirdness happens, like 'Masks' or the one where the Enterprise's computer produces an offspring.
But yes, my favourite is "Inner Light". There's this civilisation and they know they're going to be wiped out, and there's no way of getting out so they send their culture instead, because that they can save.
(Spoilers for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
I just love the end of it, because it's the most perfect ending for those characters. I do not care what any later canon said, they're still out their, exploring strange new worlds, finding new life and new civilisations. How is that not the happiest thing?
I mean, Inner Light breaks me every time, but saddest event given that I knew he came back because I saw Search For Spock first is still the end of Wrath of Khan.
TW: Brief mention of COVID in the summary section at the bottom. I have labelled it summary so it's avoidable.
Alexander the Great RPF: )
Blade Runner )
Buffy: )
Doctor Who: )
Marvelverse: )
Miscellaneous: )
Wrestling: )
And a few bits and pieces of late fest fics.
Summary:
Added to the never going to be finished pile: 7 (3 of which hurt because what there is is gold, they just don't go anywhere. One of these is likely to rise like the phoenix at some point)
Unstuck: 1
I've been doing a yearly post about this for goodness knows how long, and removing ones that haven't moved in at least 4 years for 11 years (or thereabouts).
I think this is the year with the most fics sent to the "never going to be finished" folder. I was trying to figure out why, and then I realised, oh yeah, 4 years ago was COVID.
And that's odd because I was one of the people least affected, I kept on working, yes from home but pretty much doing the same job, I wasn't furloughed, I didn't catch it and me and mine weren't harmed.
And yet it still seems to have done something because there are so many fics from back then where I've just lost all ability to carry them on because I can't remember where they were going. It's most odd.
I love 'Journey to Babel'.
There are better episodes, there are funnier, sadder, more dramatic episodes but none I love as much as 'Journey to Babel'. Not least McCoy's glee at learning about Spock's selkat.
This one is getting a day 0 because, due to not being in the house all that often, computer games and money, I have no access to Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds or Prodigy, so these will all be missing from my answers.
(There will be lots of whinging about this on Discovery's day, day 25)
Pinched from sorry I can't remember
Do you live your life with too many tabs open? All this stuff you want to read, all this stuff at your fingertips, all the heartbreak when your browser crashes. List your open tabs, or a handful of them, just to share, or to motivate you.
Due to laptop's tendency to brick when faced with anything requiring processing power, my days of molto tab are over.
The following is a screenshot of what I tend to have open when I'm writing my rugby posts.
