This year I had some really interesting prompts to work with, I went with the following:

No Going Back (1/1)
Pairing/scenario requested: Hank and Ororo - They stumble across the Xavier protocols while Xavier is still alive.

I nearly goofed this one up, having accidentally written a reasonably decent fic that featured Hank and Moira McTaggart. Cue some severe and rather last minute massive re-writes. I'm reasonably proud of how it turned out because of how different the dynamic is between Hank and Ororo and Henry and Moira, and how different the setting and general feel of the fic are.

Because in the Henry and Moira one, there was this whole science theme going on and how they were respected equals and it was totally platonic and it was all brain love. Plus Henry was more worried that Moira and Professor Xavier had a thing going on some time ago and how dare a man ask his ex-lover to kill him.

He's a lot less pissed off about Ororo getting asked to do it, but then again he knows she's a much different person. Personal film canon has it being just Prof X, Magneto and Jean for eighteen months to a couple of years, then Scott gets rescued then it's the four of them for another couple of years and then Storm and Beast join in that order but very close together in time. Jason Stryker and the others start to arrive sometime after that. Also that Beast was always very clever and therefore more adult when he arrived, ditto Storm after all she'd been through (in much the same way that I have Colossus being the most serious and grown up of the kids because of what happened to his family). Jean Grey and Cyclops are they children that Magneto and Xavier never had and vice versa. Storm and Beast aren't family in the same way.

Also, I've never had as much trouble keeping a gen fic gen as with this one. While gen wasn't written into the prompt, the way the rest of it played out made me want to keep it gen. But there was totally panic sex afterwards. Also I now have yet more personal canon that features them losing their virginity to each other, in some cute and entirely charmingly awkward way. There is mid-coitus consultation of text books on positions and comfort I tell you.

The poor person having to cope with my requests, which all featured either Beast or Nightcrawler (I have a soft spot for the boys in blue) came up with this cracker:

The summary is 'Kurt goes home' and he does and it's a wonderful Kurt characterisation. He's sweet but with a wonderfully droll sense of humour and his fabulous piety. Even better are several of the support characters. And I got mutant politics and a story about us and them and everything I could hope for in an X-men fic. I encourage you to go and read it.
