The Sentinal - I watched it when it came on because of everyone else recommending it. And it is fun,
however,
I do not see the slash factor.
This is undoubtedly down to a fair few things but mainly I fear due to the fact that they sound like me and Mum bickering when they bicker. There's one episode to do with an oil rig, and they have an argument about Sandburg's tidiness or lack thereof. It's copybook me and Mum. Only my curls aren't as tidy. (I would love hair like that)
That being given, would someone explain to me the twinking of Sandburg. Because I don't get it. He isn't in the slightest bit effeminate, and nor is he a puddle of gooey emotions.

All that being said, I might not be the best judge of slashy since I'm writing obscure guest of the week Seaquest DSV slash.
Seaquest itself isn't half as bad as people make out. Plus it has Dagwood who is the most adorable character on any programme ever. And even better, he is adorable without being overly sugary.
Most of the characters are not the usual macho men and helpless women of most sci-fi which is quite refreshing. Also there is a captain who would rather talk than fight, this is good.
I also love the end of the second series, because in the tradition of sci-fi there is no happy ending.

I have also been watching Farscape (why yes the TV is stuck on the Sci-fi Channel and Eurosport) they're reshowing the first series. I'm falling in love with it all over again.
Zhaan is such an interesting character, and her and D'Argo are lovely together.
Plus 'The Flux' was on, which makes me happy because Staanz makes me think that I'm not the least feminine woman in the Universe. Not that I wouldn't kiss her.

Date: 2003-07-24 04:48 pm (UTC)Dude, it is one of the greatest mysteries of Sentinel fandom. It makes even less sense than twinking 220+ pound wrestlers who pound each other senseless weekly. I mean, at least Jericho really is vain and bitchy, and Christian had those temper tandrums. But Sandburg? Yeah. Makes no sense. I think it's because of the long curly hair and the big blue eyes. Somehow that is justification enough for some people. Personally, I wonder as well, 'cause yeah, he's an academic, but he's soooooo not effeminate in any way, shape, or form.
And also, Sentinel was filmed where I live. Sandburg's university is set at UBC -- aka, the university I'm currently going to. Have you gotten to "Sentinel Two" yet?

I suppose it's because he's the little, younger one. Actually he can't be that young, not if he's going for a doctorate.
LOL, it does start to seem like Canada, and especially Toronto were where half of all 90s sci-fi shows were set.
Not yet, but am I right in understanding that Jeri '7 of 9' Ryan appears? Because I'd love to know if she can act.

Date: 2003-07-24 05:39 pm (UTC)I'm afraid so. Actually, there was this hilarious parody fic I wish I can find now in which the author deliberately changed Blair into a girl. Jim was like, O.o, and Blair was like, "But now we can be together! I'm a girl! Just like everyone wants me to be."

Exactly! I think he was supposed to be nearing 30 at least. And the thing is, even with the long hair and big blue eyes, Sandburg looks very masculine. He is not "pretty". I mean, yeah, compared to Jim "built like a brick outhouse" Ellison, Sandburg is not gonna be as macho looking. But by himself, he is very male.
LOL, it does start to seem like Canada
Sentinel is VERY Vancouver, what with all the rain and gloomy skies. It is highly amusing. At least they do set it near enough to Vancouver - Cascade, Washington - that it doesn't seem entirely ridiculous, unlike other shows which want Vancouver to pass for Los Angeles.

Yep, indeed she does. LOL, she was worse in "Sentinel Two" than on Voyager, believe me.

Date: 2003-07-25 12:40 pm (UTC)I think Arnie would look small compared to Ellison :) Plus the man can use power tools. He's clever and sweet, and he can use power tools, I think I want one :)
Is that why the X-files was in perpetual dark, trying to hide the lack of sunshine :)
>>LOL, she was worse in "Sentinel Two" than on Voyager, believe me.<<
This is not possible, is it?!!

Date: 2003-07-26 10:34 pm (UTC)Ahahahaha, exactly. Though I think they made pretty good use of the climate here to build atmosphere for X-Files. Not like Sliders, which was set in LA/SF.
Dude, Jeri Ryan was somewhat decent in Voyager! I mean, she's IN CHARACTER when she's being wooden and flat and unresponsive. But when you ask her to play a real life woman? Blah.
