Since another fic has reached 1000 AO3 hits, I have updated this graph.

Kaplan Meier curve for shippy or gen fic reaching 1000 hits

The curve no longer looks as nice, I think because there's still a low number of incidents (fics hitting 1000), and because I'm basically doing a belts and braces version of visualising it. I have got a link to a guide to how to do this in R somewhere, I've just got to find it and once I do, I should be able to produce a nicer graph.

The difference in likelihood of reaching 1000 is still not significant.

So if I'm reading this correctly, shippy and gen fics are both more or less equally likely to reach 1000 hits at some point, for a reasonably popular & consistent author. It's just that shippy ones appear to be more likely to hit it early on? (& survival % is the % of stories of that genre that have not yet reached 1k hits?)

I don't get a lot of practice reading graphs in the presence of someone who can actually tell me if I've got it wrong, so hope you don't mind...
