I know this probably counts as spamming but OMG Nicky Wire (of the Manics) has released an album with a song on it called Sehnsucht. That pretty much stops my plan of ever changing my website's name.

Must have! And must find out why I didn't know of its existance.

Presently hoping one of my fic floppy discs is on my table at uni, because otherwise I have lost rather a lot of the Ric/Randy epic I'm in the middle of writing. Blast!

Other than that, one of the other long fics of doom is coming along well, even if I'll totally have to re-write one scene because it makes no sense.

Other fic featuring a certain Russian is going well. Post-HBP fic going well too, I'm just in a quandry as to whether to use a certain paragraph.

Remind me that even if I have the money, which I do, buying a magazine aimed at gay men for an article about John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) is an expense that I don't need, and will cause eyebrow raising that I also don't need.

Even if I do want to read said article.

I've also splurged on a Manics book that I fear I already have the most of.

I'm also this far (tiny distance) from writing a long post all about how much I love Captain Jack Harkness. I warn you.

I love, love, love Carson Beckett on Stargate Atlantis.
I also still love the ending of the CSI ep: 'The Strip Strangler' because of the look on Gil's face when he nearly gets killed. It's all 'OMG he was going to try and kill me, why?' because I think, even after who knows how many years of being a CSI, Gil still doesn't get that people are messed up and kill for rather peculiar reasons.

Wrist screwed up beyond belief. If you imaging holding your palm out flat as being 0 degrees, I can't turn my forearm to 90 degrees without it hurting like a bitch, you'd be amazed how many things involve that kind of movement.

Went and bought CDs to make myself feel better. Am now the proud owner of 'Up All Night' by Razorlight, an Animals Best Of, a Dusty Springfield best of and a random Gary Numan CD.

I've taken to listening to my CDs when I get bored. Lifeblood by the Manics is a lot better the more you listen to it. 1985 is still the best song on the album, but the others are starting to sink into my brain.

Saw a J-C Van Damme film called 'Replicant' which is a seriously, seriously messed up film. On top of some seriously bizarre non-sexual bondage and some serious pet play, it had the most random sex scene ever. It was like the writer just thought - oh we need a sex scene. So how do we get a holy fool type character laid? Simple, we have a prostitute randomly grab him.

spoiler

As for the two of them practically skipping away at the end, I have no words.

End spoiler

Actually it was quite a good film in a wierd way, a properly psycho character who got to kick women and small children and the disabled. And with a fun excuse to explain Van Damme's accent.

Yay for small international co-productions made in Toronto. Which may or may not have been pretending to be San Francisco.

And I'm still all eek over it.

Admittedly it didn't look like I'd even get there at one point since I was supposed to be going with Adam who makes me look organised, so you can guess how bad he is.

He was supposed to ask his brother if I could come with and sort the tickets out, of course he didn't so I had to get them myself and to make sure he didn't stand me up and leave me going to the gig alone, which I would have been cool with but Mum less so, I had to drag cousin Phil along with.

But we were still getting a lift with Ads, his brother and the brother's girl friend. And then they were late.

Which result in me missing half of Razorlight's set, including 'Stumble and Fall' which is a great song. Luckily I heard them do that through the doors before we went in.

Anyway got in to the venue (the MEN for anyone who's been to Manchester) in time to hear the second half of their set including 'Golden Touch' which is was my favourite song of theirs and which I have pimped in here before now.

But they did another song to finish the set which has replaced it as my favourite, of course I didn't catch the name, dear sweet, adorable lead singer mumbles when he talks.

And the poor lamb had to rush off stage at one point because he had to cough up some blood. (Pets lead singer)

They finished their set and that was the point when I started worrying because the Manics hadn't sold as many tickets as last time and I was worried that they'd be dull in comparrison to what had been a stonking set by Razorlight, what I'd seen of it. Because, to be honest, they hadn't blown me away last time, and then their support act hadn't been as spectacular.

I shouldn't have worried, because they were brilliant. They were sharp, angry, the band they sometimes aren't any more.

Their opening video was a case in point, it was classic Manics montage, all "read, destroy, create" and then it finished with "you love us," change slide word by word, "and we love you". And that was when I knew it would be good.

They opened with 'If you tolerate this..." which on the album, and the single, is this grand stately epic, (it's the one with the creepy video of the people with their eyes, mouths, ears and noses covered over) and they turned it into an absolute rocker.

Then came 'Faster', proper, full speed, 'Faster'.

They played '1985' which is my favourite track off the new album, 'You Love Us', 'Cardiff Afterlife', which sucks no matter what you do with it, but the video montage was interesting, and then 'You Stole The Sun' which I hate on the album and love done live, because they totally change it.

And then they played 'No Surface, All Feeling'. Just wow. It's my favourite song of theirs (and one of my top three songs of all time) and I finally heard them play it live.

Then there was 'Solitude Sometimes Is' off the new album, all delicate tinkle and all. That was about the only one that got left as it was, and there's not much you can do with it.

Then they played 'Yes' and dedicated it to Razorlight. Which amused me.

At some point they played 'Australia', and then the other two went off and we had the acoustic part. Now James Dean Bradfield had had a throat infection and the last two shows had been cancelled so people threw packs of throat lozenges at him at various points during the night. And despite this he did the first two verses and chorus of "Archives of Pain" complete with crowd as rhythm sections and all of 'This is Yesterday', which is an incredibly beautiful song.

Back came the band. Now up to this point, Nicky Wire had been wearing a long leopard print jacket with green cargo pants. When he came back, he was in a white strappy top, red mini-skirt and white pop-socks, and then proceeds to climb on to a stack of speakers and merrily jig along those. And then half way through the song sat down and swung his legs off the end of the stack in a most schoolgirl-like manner. So yeah, have no idea which song it was. But it could well have been 'La Tristessa (Duerra)'.

The second half of the set involved, in some order, 'Small Black Flowers', 'Die in the Summertime', 'Kevin Carter', 'Motorcycle Emptiness,', 'Love of Richard Nixon', 'Empty Souls', 'Tsunami', and 'Design For Life' as the big end number, complete with crowd all standing up and singing. And somewhere early on there was the very beginning of 'Sleepflower' played at the request of one guy who'd been to every gig on the tour (no, this is not excessive behaviour, this is reasonable Manics fan behaviour, we're kind of odd).

I swear there's a song I've forgotten but it was so wonderful. And we had great seats too, stage centre, half way up the seating (pictures forthcoming after Christmas). Now I've just got to see them from the standing section one time, but Phil wouldn't do that, and unless they play a mini-gig in Leiester once, Mum wouldn't approve either.

Now to try and compose a gushing fan-letter in thanks. Mainly because they really deserve one for reasons I won't go into.

I decided to splash out and buy this month's Essential X-men, which was a good choice (it's issue 103 for those who care) and it's very good.

It includes the return of the Legacy Virus to a position of great importance, and the return of an old character with his real accent. Oh and a scene that makes me cry, due to the sheer unpathetic patheticness of a certain character. (What I'm hormonal and I was watching 'Die Me Dichotomy' otherwise known as the Farscape episode that makes me cry earlier)

Plus the most bizarre exchange ever between Bishop and Gambit A bounty hunter from the future and a thief discussing the works of Victor Hugo )

It's even better when you imagine it using Bishop's voice from the cartoon. It was such a yummy voice.

Plus there's a certain amount of good natured snarking at Xavier.

And the reprint of the next part of the original Children of the Atom storyline, due to which I am presently kind of pissed of at Xavier.

Actually I want to kiss whoever drew the 'Dream's End' story because the pictures are good.

My comics habit is going to be the bankrupting of me.

That reminds me, I'm 18 and I have to deal with insurance companies. It's not fair. (end Kevin the teenager mode)

Plus and this is a big plus, Music Zone have Lipstick Traces for £10.

(Mum and Nan still driving me barmy so I'm retreating back into the safe world of music and comics)

Gonzo is the chat show type thing on MTV2. And normally due to the presence of Zane Lowe trying to be clever it's annoying and obnoxious. Anyway, Nicky, who's the bass player with the Manics, was on and it was good, for once.

Mainly because he kept ripping the piss out of everything. And being fun. He even made Zane bearable.

But St. Anger was on, and he said that Robert Trujo was Metallica's 3rd bassist and they should stop showing the video lest it give James (Bradfield, singer, guitar player etc with the Manics) any ideas.

Yes, this is a gratuitous lyrics post, but its the Manics and therefore required. I must get their B-sides album.

Okay so we've had nice weather for two weeks, and then the day before the class photograph (the big important leaving college never to return one) it rains. So I've got to wash my hair, even if no one will see me on the picture.

But gah!

Chemistry course work has left even the most stable of my friends in either raging panic, a foul mood or tears. Since I am less calm and collected than them at the best of times I've been all three. But it is nearly done.

I'm beginning to think that 'Know Your Enemy' is the Manics most underrated album. Because yes, it's less obviously personal than their others, but that's because they would have ended up slitting their wrists if they'd made another one like them. What do music journalists want? Blood.

Oops, they've already had blood. (The Manics for those who don't know used to have a guitarist called Richie Edwards who once carved 4 Real into his arm to try and show that the Manics weren't the big fakers the idiots in the music press made them out to be)

But yes, it's good musically, more inventive than a few of their albums, it also has this wonderful depressed, cynical sense of humour. The best example of this is a song called "Miss Europa Disco Dancer" which is one of the best disco pastiches going.

Then again another of the songs, 'The Convalescent' does contain the line, 'And Brian Warner has a tasty little ass'. The mind boggles.

Happiness is ... tickets to the Manic Street Preachers concert at the Nynex/MEN. Yes, I'm ridiculously easy to please.

You know how there is always the one band, the one true desert island disc band. Well, they are mine. Really. Their music has got me through some seriously bad times.

Admittedly they are seated tickets, and while some of my friends may say sitting is for wimps, for these sitting is required, I want to take it all in.

Haven't been so exited in years.
