Jupiter Ascending

Wasn't as good as it could have been.
I can predict whether or not someone will like it by their reaction to the following phrase "wolf-man fights dinosaur in space." If that doesn't tickle your brain, you probably will not enjoy the film.
There is the premise for a really cool sci-fi tv show lurking under the explosions. They just don't go into the details of it.
And just ignore the science. For the love of your sanity, just ignore the science.
Please excuse me while I cackle about the saviours of the Earth being American while the rest of the universe is British. I mean, I'm used to evil sounding British but everyone else was. I don't know if that's because the film was filmed in the UK or if UK-based actors are cheaper but it was a bit 'oh hello you' at the actors every time we met someone from out of Earth.
I approve of Hollywood's sudden thing for James D'Arcy. I am confused by its suddenness, but I approve.
Aunt Nina is my favourite. She is awesome. Actually, I like all of Jupiter's family, even cousin Vladdie. Because everyone has a Vladdie (and hello Kick Gurry, again). And I love Jupiter's uncle (and everyone else) smacking him. For all the various dialogue issues, they got Jupiter's family's dialogue and the Aegis crew's dialogue spot on.
There was some nice subtle background work on Sean Bean's character, because I recognise an incurable cough of plot significance when I hear one. And I love that when he explains himself Caine forgives him instantly, and doesn't doubt that he's now back entirely onside. It was awesome.
L asked whether the expected happened to Sean Bean's character, and it didn't. It didn't and the camera loved him.
I am still amazed that no-one, Aegis downwards, mentioned that Titus was trying to marry his mother. Even in a nigh-immortal techno-cloning future that's got to be a no-no.
Actually Titus and his sister were sound bad guys. Eddie Redmayne need to turn it down a few. I think I know what he was going for, but he was missing it by miles.
It was nice of them to give Channing Tatum a dry run at Gambit. If he looks like that at Rogue at any point, I may burst into flame with shippery glee. I am also greatly amused by the bait and switch from the advert which made it look like Caine's the hero and Jupiter is the love interest, when it's not like that at all. And you can tell when the love story works when the response to the kiss is "finally", admittedly followed by "guys, please return to the plot".
I could have done with more of the backstory and I really want to know what happens to the rest of the universe if the gene-juice runs low because the it really does appear to run on the stuff. That's where the series I was thinking of would start. I am allowed to invent tv shows that I am never going to get.
Mila Kunis is one of those actors who doesn't work for me, but she was solid in this, particularly when she was being Jupiter Jones downtrodden.
And I <3 Jupiter. Given the opportunity to save her family at the cost of the world, she doesn't take it. She makes the hero's choice.
All mockery apart, I did like having a film where there were good guys that I could like. Because they were good.
