redfiona99This film was serious Raphael propaganda and did terrible things to my boy Mikey but it was surprisingly good fun.
Contrary to reports received, April O'Neil was awesome. I suspect people have been prejudging her because of who is playing her and who produced the film but she was tenacious, heroic, brave and wonderful.
Splinter was also awesome, even if, rather worryingly, Raphael was my favourite Turtle in the film. This is a very wrong thing.
Advanced warning, the opening of TMNT is awesome, and then there's about 15-20 minute that are not so good and then the film kicks into gear.
Dear film-makers, twists work better when you don't spoil them in the trailer. That being said, Sacks was what (spoiler) should have been in Captain America 2. I was a little disappointed when the mad scientist was about money but then he said he and Shredder would be gods and I was "yes, you may join the man scientists guild." We have standards after all. And the man looks damn good in a t-shirt and BDUs.
It was a little :( at Splinter beating up the Turtles but I came round after the pizza torment.
Will Arnett's "the other guy" was actually fun, even if, if I were a guy, I start to worry about how dorky Hollywood thinks your everyman character is. But he comes into his own when he's needed, which is nice.
I was sat next to a particularly talkative example of the actual target audience (I still don't know why this was a 12A). The 7 year olds in attendance loved it, which is what matters, even if they have been brainwashed into liking Raphael.
Because Raphael's character is "I don't need any of you guys," despite great volumes of evidence that they work better as a group of four, and keeps leaving the others in the lurch. I have no time for that sort of character.
In this, they keep it to him just straining at the leash and not liking taking orders from Leonardo, which I can understand, and when he separates from the Turtles, it's due to circumstance, not him being bull-headed, which again, I like more.
So yes, good writing work for Raphael.
