With much talk of the thing that happens after the credits.

I really enjoyed it. It's like they finally got what makes Wolverine tick, so while there is pining and angsty moping, it is silent, and therefore easier for the audience to take, as in there is less eye-rolling and mocking of the "no"s.

I mean, I grant the CGI bear pissing is mockworthy, but also kind of adorable. I like the kinship he has with Wolverine. And of course, like anything Wolverine loves/is vaguely fond of, the bear dies. Horribly. (Seriously, the man should have a health warning)

I do love that Wolverine goes kill crazy in response. As I said, this film seems to get him a lot more than Origins did.

Yukio's entrance was suitably awesome. I also liked what they did with her and Mariko, because they were very different, but they were never in competition with each other and you could tell they adored one another. The other thing I liked is that Mariko's character wasn't an "action" girl, but she was still strong, it was just a different kind of strong.

Probably my favourite thing though was that they didn't translate the Japanese (except for one seen which I didn't mind because, did I mention Mariko and Yukio are adorable) so, unless the viewer is a Japanese speaker, they're as confused as Logan.

I mean, yes, there was a fair bit too much of "everyone is a leet ninja" (except the yakuza, the yakuza were unleet), but you know, comic book film so I will forgive them. And despite everything I know that was wrong with it, I loved the fight scene on the top of the bullet train.

Obviously I knew they had to give Logan his healing power back by the end because status quo is god, but I thought it was a good way to go with Wolverine because it's very hard to feel worried about a character when there's no peril attached for that character because he can't be hurt.

I also loved that even without his healing factor (or, at least a reduced version of it) Logan just keeps on being himself and getting in the way of bullets and trying to save the girl. As I said, I feel that they caught his character which is, let's be honest, the epitome of the the gruff, distant guy with a heart of gold.

The film also understood what the comics and X-Men 1 understood, which is that Wolverine + teenage girl (Yukio in this case) = ratings. It's actually quite interesting because one of the features of said relationship is that there's no romantic interest, at least not on Wolverine's part. Ever.

I enjoyed the film, which I wasn't expecting (in fact, I'd like to thank [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite/Dreamwidth user = andraste (I still can't do the dreamwidth linky thing) for her review which convinced me to go and see it) but it was pleasing. It's not like OMG world-shatteringly brilliant but it doesn't need to be.

OMG it was perfect.

Like, I imagined that scene or an equivalent, but this was better than anything I imagined. It's all the little call-backs to the previous films (the raising metal and the sudden stopping of everything), the little details like Trask's name in the background, and then that moment where Wolverine (and us in the audience) realise that Xavier is alive and working with Magneto and it must be something terrible because they're teaming up and the look of hatred and loathing in Magneto's eyes when he has to ask Logan for help and it's wonderful.
