Just back from watching my beloved Saints beat Quins at Quins. Not bad for the first away game I've ever seen live.

I mean, there were bad things (um, the last 20 minutes of the first half), and they could do with asome more handling lessons (mostly looking at you here, Jonny Lomax), but as Royce Simmons said - "The best part of today's performance is that we came down here with 18 guys to play, and 15 of them have come through our Academy."

Beat that, anyone else!

As I have seen far too much of the rugby union world cup, some reportage.

England are not as good as they want to be, Scotland are not as good as the pundits are pretending, Wales are far better than expected and Ireland are every bit as bad as expected.

Further afield, Italy suffered their usual problem of a drop-off in fitness in the last twenty minutes, as did Argentina, both of these problems may well be fixed with the entrance of the Italian clubs into the Magners League and the entry of Argentina to the Tri (now 4) nations.

Australia and South Africa were both nowhere near as good as expected, Japan and the US (the captain [http://brightnshinythings.tumblr.com/post/10081165503/dear-usaians-the-flying-man-with-the-ponytail-is ] should have many statues dedicated to him) were way better than expected and everyone else played about as expected.
