I went to see Captain America
Aug. 18th, 2011 10:46 amDear Marvel-related films, you know all the good will you had after First Class on the language front. All gone. In one fell swoop. Why yes, the accents in Captain America were once again Hollywood Cherman. Not that I don't appreciate Hugo Weaving's Arnie impression, but why are the Germans talking to each other with Cherman accents?!

As far as actual film comments go, Cap was there. It wasn't actively bad. It had some good points. I am more excited about the Avengers because I get < spoiler > and < spoiler > back. But then Thor has been my favourite of the summer movies. I'm also pleased that they're keeping X-men separate from the Avengers. Unless they do the thing they did with that characters again.

Date: 2011-08-18 06:16 pm (UTC)This is probably wise, of Fox. And probably a good thing overall, although I admit a bias because back at the height of my comic book geekery, I hated The Avengers because they were a bunch of bigoted anti-mutant do-gooders /teenage self. I think Marvel were doing one of their things where just because someone is good doesn't make them nice and being good in one area didn't stop them being jerks in another (why, yes, I'm looking at you, Iron Man). And it was a great strip, but it'd be hella difficult to do in a film, and I'd miss it if they didn't do it.

By all accounts, the people who did Cap really really wanted to sneak in a mention of Erik in there, and *I* really would've LOVED it, too, along with many many other people, but alas, it just wasn't possible.
