Film Meme - Day 28 - Favorite film from your favorite director
Needless to say, I'm not going to be picking one, because it would be hard. I've got directors I love, Quentin Tarantino, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan (the only thing I knew about Inception was that he was directing it. It was enough to make me go and watch it.) and ones I respect, like Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg but I'm aware that saying that means I'm not putting people like Powell and Pressburger, Francois Truffaut, John Ford and Howard Hawks.
It's easier for me to say what I don't like. I don't like knowing that there's a camera there. Now look, you're going to say, you're a Tarantino fan you don't get to say things like that. And I grant that he's very tricksy and he does silly things, and he breaks the fourth wall with demented glee, but he always does it in a way where it's saying hello to the audience and treating us like adults not 'wahey I like the pretty lens flare'. I hate lens flare with the passion of a thousand diabolical suns. It totally throws me out of a film so quickly. Also directors who use too many quick cuts. In short, if, during your film, I am thrown out of it by your use of cameras or your inability to use them, I am displeased.
By the by, I have no seen Inglorious Basterds yet. Please do not spoil it for me.
