Politics, Regionalism and a meme
Apr. 28th, 2010 11:57 amHad two more election pamphlets through the door. These were addressed to people. I was the only one that got a Lib Dem one (don't worry, it's been shared amongst the housemates), and everyone got a Tory one. It's interesting to see where Ashcroft's millions are being spent. Actually, I doubt it's his since were a Lib/Lab marginal, with the Tories in a distinct third, being closely chased by the Greens.
It turns out that the Tory candidate is housemate's girlfriend's old landlord. A report was, of course, obtained, and she didn't seem impressed with him. She's still voting Tory though :( (Yes, I know, everyone has the right to vote according to their conscience, it doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.)
O, who, is more economically liberal than me, but less socially liberal, nearly got into a screaming row with her over both healthcare and the war in Afghanistan. Thankfully not present for that, because I would probably have ended up accidentally fanning the flames.

Interesting article in the Times yesterday (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/guest_contributors/article7107891.ece) all about the rebuilding of Liverpool. Given that it, at one point, says that Liverpool is better, architechturally, than Manchester (which is true btw), I was waiting for someone to reply.
In today's letters section, there's a very nice and reasonable letter saying that Liverpool's wealth was founded on the slave trade and there's still no equality, in terms of political representation, today. As I say, reasonable and well-argued, until I look at the home institution of the academics sending the letter, which is Manchester University. While I still think their statement is important, I do find their location amusing.

Date: 2010-04-28 05:50 pm (UTC)No to three, but yeah, the Punisher has a disturbingly similar outline.
Right with four and five. I love the Dr. Who one because it has great truthiness. I thought you might enjoy the Brimestone one. Hearing the general upset in regards to LOTS reminded me of it.

Date: 2010-04-28 06:00 pm (UTC)The not-Punisher one threw me, because I didn't think you were that big of a fan of the title or the character. But it seemed to fit. But if it's not Punisher... *racks brain*
I'll come back to it.
T_________________T Brimstone. I'm angry that it still isn't out on DVD and may not for a long while, if ever. ARGH.
