redfiona991) Inspired by Doctor Who's "Turn Left:" Pick one of my stories and tell me a point in the tale that you'd change. Something tiny (e.g. "and then Fay chose silver glitter instead of gold") or big (e.g. "and then Rose was arrested instead of Jack") and I'll tell you how that one difference would have altered the course of the entire story.
2) List the first sentences of your last twenty stories. See if you find any patterns.
1 - He should have known it was a bad idea to bet on the result of a match against Orton.
2 - If he takes a briefcase and keeps hold of it, he has a one in four chance of being fired.
3 - Harry wasn't coming to the New Year's party.
4 - “I take it that shoes will not work as an apology.”
5 - "He hasn’t been practising enough."
6 - He'd been standing in the corner for what had to have been a quarter of an hour now, and he was getting bored.
7 - There were lots of things that Jesse didn't tell people, because he knew they wouldn't believe him.
8 - Kurogane was no fool.
9 - Moody took a photo out of one of the boxes in his attic.
10 - She thought of him, sometimes, when she let her fingers do the walking.
11 - He liked to watch them fuck themselves with a dildo first.
12 - If the situation had been different, Scott didn’t think he could have contained his happiness, because Tobias was alive and well.
13 - "Some athletes think that sex before an event enhances performance."
14 - Contrary to popular belief, Sirius and I were never lovers.
15 - He knew he was going to die, the physics that he remembered from school told him that much.
16 - The first person to notice, or at least to make it obvious that she'd noticed, was Esme.
17 - The one thing the plotters could not understand was the strange loyalty of Octavian's Praetorian.
18 - "Are you sure this is okay, I mean for your knee?"
19 - There were times when Jack worried about Suzie, her sheer unlikeliness.
20 - He should have expected this from the first but he hadn’t.
Hmm, possibly that I have an unnerving tendency to start my stories off with personal pronouns. Half of them mention names in them, the other half don't. I live in hope that the ones that don't aren't too ambiguous.
Average length is 13.4 words. (First 10 = 13.5, second 10 = 13.3, so no real difference with time)
Average length for wrestling = 16.3 words
Average for Potter = 11
Average for Dr. Who/Torchwood = 13
Average for TRC = 4.5
Average for Seaquest DSV = 16
Average for Misc. = 12.75
4 started with dialogue (avg. length 9.25 words).
If I write from a restricted 3rd person for Kurogane, I keep it ridiculously short (4 and 5 words), 3rd person restricted for Randy once again provided the longest one (23 words) but he's shorter in the others.
I have written only one thing in anything other than the restricted 3rd and that was Jossed OOTP fic from Lupin's first person perspective.
Most of them are statements that later get expanded upon.
