Thor Hushvod won the mass sprint at the end of yesterday's stage, and the Eurosport "funny" (although, surprisingly containing the best non-letour.fr coverage) blog had this to say:
>>The secret of Thor's success? Well, his parents come out and follow him each July in their camper van and the Bull from Grimstad admits he often sneaks away "to have some of my mother's Norwegian meat balls - they are the best".<<

****
Also on to the reason why Fabian Cancellara is the only Swiss guy I will cheer for:
>>Cancellara, whose pace early on the climbs can help tire out other teams' contenders, said he is now prepared to take on a new role for Saxo Bank if it allows his team-mates like 2008 white jersey winner Andy Schleck, and brother Frank, to prosper and play to their strengths on the mountain stages.<<

He really is a super-domestique.
****
Alberto Contador, who I don't big up nearly as much as I should features in this one:
El Periodico de Cataluna: “The feeling of hope sparked in January by ‘dia de los Reyes’ reappeared thanks to the passage of the Tour on Catalan roads. It was a spectacular event. Even with the rain, each village was packed with spectators.”
The paper carried a quote from Alberto Contador: “I couldn’t count the number of Bernabeu stadiums you could fill with all the people I saw on the roadside. It was unvelievable,” said the 2007 Tour champion.
