Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Mar. 31st, 2009 10:31 pmlgbtfest fic continues to increase in length. It's about 2/3rds done, and it's already 4200 words.
Other than that, I seem to recall saying I'd go through volumes 18 and 19 of the TRC pointing out some of the more squee-inducing moments. 18 actually has less auto-squee moments but it's very cool nonetheless. It also includes my favourite splash pages:

Other than loving the punk rock look on them, I love their little placards (the four being (r to l) no heart, no memories, no time and no tears. Which might be partly true for about half of them, half the time.
We also get a bit of plot background (For those who read TV tropes, this is where the 30 Xanatos Gambit pile-up starts) and the start of Fai's backstory (deeply spoilery also - http://www.onemanga.com/Tsubasa_Reservoir_Chronicles/133/13/ and http://www.onemanga.com/Tsubasa_Reservoir_Chronicles/133/14/)
Pretty much everyone thinks that the missing word in the last panel is love. Given that that's both what Fai professes to have sworn never to let anyone do to him again, and what he likes best in previous parts. I have to agree. They've very cleverly not defined that love, and it's Sakura that he hugs in the next panel.
Following that there is further plot and the first moment of shippiness - http://www.onemanga.com/Tsubasa_Reservoir_Chronicles/134/12/
Kurogane, who actually has no real choice in the matter, in between hitsuzen, that he's sworn to keep feeding Fai his blood and his own sense of honour, tells the Princess that he'll go along with them, having previously said his only aim was to get home to Japan. I actually prefer the official translation here, which renders Kurogane's dialogue in the last two panels as "I'm still going back to the country of Japan. That hasn't changed. But there is one thing that has changed. (Cue burning look at Fai) But I think I can make more than one promise at a time."
Sayoran's choice is even worse. But even sweeter - http://www.onemanga.com/Tsubasa_Reservoir_Chronicles/134/15/
His thing is totally Sakura's love, right.
Then Sakura does the sweetest, bravest
She actually goes through with the leaving her feather behind thing. Sakura is awesome, every bit as much as the others. I <3 her so very much.
Then there's the start of the next world, which I can been seen without spoiling anything. And you should, because it's pretty people, in chains. Now, while they later explain the chains, it does still come across as kinky fanservice city. I heartily approve.

At this point the various unfortunate previous occurances have taken their toll, and there's pretty much two distinct groups, with Kurogane and Sayoran on one side and Sakura and Fai on the other, or the people who are trying their hardest to give things and the people who are trying their damnedest not to receive it.
We shan't mention the blood drinking. Because, well, I'm probably the only person with a thing for vampires on my flist.
Then there's another really beautiful splash page. http://www.onemanga.com/Tsubasa_Reservoir_Chronicles/138/01/
And then another particularly beautiful page of Sayoran angsting - http://www.onemanga.com/Tsubasa_Reservoir_Chronicles/138/12/
actually, at this point, just assume whoever is in a page is being angsty.
The splash for volume 140 is foot fetish/gothic loli heaven - http://www.onemanga.com/Tsubasa_Reservoir_Chronicles/140/01/
And features Sayoran angsting, Kurogane getting blasted to avoid angsting (this appears to be his method of dealing with everything), Fai angsting and Sakura going through fifteen thousand mortal torments because of how she feels about Sayoran and the spoiler -

Because we know that Sayoran is the real one, and so does Sakura, but no matter how similar he is, she's still in love with the clone. She can tell the difference and it's burning her up inside. I like that no one is judging her for it, or Sayoran for being in love with her.
