Ah, Good Friday, when, in this part of Northern England at least, you celebrate our Lord and Saviour giving his life by letting 13 (+4 substitutes) good men and true grab a rugby ball and beat the living daylights out of an opposing team from your local neighbourhood.

Or the Saints v Wigan derby, however you'd prefer it.

So I went, since it was Saints turn to be home and I was back. And everyone totally thought we'd be beaten because our injury list is something excessive (at least 3 starters out and I'm haunted by the thought that I'm forgetting someone) and they had more or less a full team out.

Thankfully, we were all wrong, since even missing 5 conversions (so -10 possible points) we won 46-12. Oh happy day!

Saints for once actually turned up in the opening 10 minutes, which put Wigan on the back foot, as did the referee actually making sure everyone was onside. They had Mickey Higham sin-binned (and seeing him playing for them still hurts) and then Saints scored a few more tries.

The first try was probably the nicest, Leon Pryce or Jon Wilkin making a lovely reverse pass that totally fooled the Wigan defence sending them all the wrong way as Willie Talau went over.

Then one of them crunched into Maurie, which comes under the same heading as annoying the All-Blacks, just don't, and he was down for about two minutes and then just bounced back up. I am now totally convinced that he's a Terminator and the foolish Wigan player made him have to re-boot. It was okay, he didn't eat them or anything so he must have been feeling very calm.

The most pleasing try was probably Kyle Eastmond's 60 metre screamer of a run, because we have another good baby coming through, which is always nice. Also nice was how happy everyone looked for him. I do think I might have seen the arrival of a new star in our firmament.

Wellens managed to score a try while being de-pants which I think is worthy of some applause.

I shall try to be even-handed and say that Wigan did at least try to come back.

Sean Long has some rather disturbing dreadlocks.
