On Peter Davidson and the 5th Doctor

Just read nhw's post about F getting into Dr. Who and I'm sitting here with a grin from ear to ear because it reminds me so of how I got hooked.
What's even more amusing is the people responding to that and the previous post who are saying how Davidson was their Doctor. I think the icon might just give away who my Doctor was (and rather worrying might explain my taste in clothes). Due them starting the first set of repeats that I saw with the newly recovered and refurbished Daemons, he was the one the other's had to live up to. I didn't much like the 5th Doctor, mostly because when I first saw his stories they all featured Peri, and she's enough to put you off anyone.
It's also strange because Peter Davidson was the first Doctor I saw who I'd previously seen in something else (there's a chance that I'd see Tom Baker in something else as well, a medical drama called Medics, but he'd changed a lot in between). It definitely made sure I knew it wasn't the actor's fault because we used to flip straight from Dr. Who to All Creatures Great and Small and I loved Tristan Farndale for all the reasons I didn't like the Doctor.
But wasn't it good. Any chance we could have 5 replace 10. Or get Moffat to write more stories.
