Part two of the unpopular opinions meme

These are actually unpopular. And possibly incendiary. I have a strange urge to x-post it, but I'd also like to keep my head and sanity.
1) Rafa just isn't attractive. Then again neither are Feli, Mardy, Murray, Roddick (I adore and worship his adorkableness and would marry him in a heart beat but he's not physically attractive), Feds and Nalbandian.
Mario, Marat, Tommy Robredo, David Ferrer, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Julian Knowles. These are attractive.
Oh hell is that ever going to be unpopular.
2) Enough with the Feds hate. I don't like him much, which is entirely irrational and to do with him being Swiss, but damn if he doesn't play some lovely tennis. He's not evil. He's not Satan in human form. He's just a damn good tennis player.
3) Ditto on enough with the Mirka hate which I've seen creeping up. Ever heard of the saying 'behind every strong man there's a brilliant woman'? No. Oh well you have now. No girl-bashing please.
As a general note, could I also please extend this to the female players? Sharapova is sweet and delightful, even if she really isn't Russian anymore. The Williams sisters are beautiful, and if people could also avoid the slight hint of unpleasentness whenever talking about the two I'd be grateful, because lets just say neither Davenport nor Mauresmo get called ugly monsters and as they're both the same size and general physique as the Williams sisters, I find this interesting.
PS: I know the Williams sisters are arrogant. I like this about them. It's fine as long as you can back it up. See also Schumacher, M.
PPS: Be mean about Mauresmo at your own peril. I will not be held responsible for my actions. I don't mind people pointing out that she chokes, but beyond that, no, just no.
4) Rafalos creeps me the fuck out. And yes, it is the age difference. And no, that doesn't make me a hypocrite since I like Florton and a couple of other May to Decembers. Because in all of the those, the December had no or little influence during the May's formative teenage years. I think its the influence and the age and just, it squicks me, okay.
5) Mother dearest passed something very important on to me from her Dad, from her days as a swimmer. It's that out of the water/off piste/off court they're your friends, in the water/on piste/on court, they're your rivals. I refuse to believe that professional tennis players think any differently. Please not to be saying otherwise in your fics.

3) ...We're going to argue now :p I dislike Sharapova for many reasons and the same goes for the Williams sisters. I'm not going to say I like them just because I like other female players.
4) *giggles* I can see where you're coming from, but...it only creeps me the fuck out when it's written creepily...which makes no sense.
5) YES. They're pros <3 Although I can understand how it can be harder to face a close friend, or how you can dislike someone on and off the courts ;)

Date: 2007-03-11 10:10 pm (UTC)3) Yeah but your dislike comes from reasonable, rational places not just because Sharapova's pretty and dares to maybe be going out with Roddick, or because the Williams sisters have the temerity to be good, strong and black, because as I said, it's noticeable that Davenport doesn't get complaints.
5) I totally understand that too but I wouldn't see it stopping them.
