Finally I've got all 21 done.

Author: Red Fiona
Disclaimers: I don't own the characters, variously WWE and they themselves, Bloomsbury books and JK Rowling, New Line and the Tolkein estate, 20th Century Fox and Marvel, whoever are the Smallville people, Joss Whedon and Mutant Enemy, the BBC, and Lucasfilm do. No money being made. Any characters that are representations of real life characters are not meant to reflect the real life persons in any way.

Characters: HHH, John Cena, Ric Flair, Randy Orton, Michael Cole and Tazz, Victoria and Trish, Kane and Lita, Jamie Noble and Nidia, various combinations of La Resistance, Lupin, Snape, Eowyn, Boromir, Faramir, Ethan and Giles, Lex and Clark, Wolverine and Rogue.

Theme: Unrequited - Collins English dictionary definition - not returned. Some are romantic love, some are unromantic love, some are wierd and odd and several are decidedly pretentious.

1 - HHH and the Belt - It was weird, having the belt never seemed to be quite as good as he expected or remembered, and he knew that, but each time he kept fighting and clawing and cheating and sneaking his way back to the top of the mountain because of a burning desire to have it again. Have it be his and his alone. Why? For the golden strap that was lying over the top of the chair, for the glory it brought having it. He did this sometimes, draping it over a chair and starring at it for hours at an end. It wasn't alive, it couldn't out-stare him, but still sometimes he had to bow before it's weight and look away. All that history wrapped up in so little space, that was what gave the belt its special glitter, an extraordinary sparkle that couldn't be explained. Oh it was worth it. More than worth it. Only the weak had doubts.

2 - Cena and the crowd - It was only when they were gone that he missed the crowd. While he was out there he knew they were there but only in the way he knew oxygen was there. They and it were vital, filled your body with creative fire and their absence snuffed it out. They cheered for him now, but next time he was in this city they might not, they might boo and hiss at him. Or worse they might ignore him, that would be the one thing he couldn't stand. He needed them, their noise, the atmosphere they created. But they didn't need him, they'd cheer for anyone. He could hear them doing it for Carlito now, the kind of cheers he used to get, cheers of joy at what he was saying, his quick words. He used to be allowed to say things like that, clever, naughty, just this side of wrong, things you couldn't help but cheer for, but now he had to play it safe, be Vanilla Nice because he had to sell t-shirts and CDs to the kids, and while it was fun, there was no kick to it, no intelligence to the rhymes. But you give them what they want because you need them and they don't need you, and if you don't give them what they want, they'll go, cheer for someone else, cheer for Carlito.

3 - Ric and the past - It was all very nice being involved the main event at Wrestlemania at his age but it wasn't enough. To go from being in them to be the chief cheerleader, the most prominent part of the supporting cast, it was like asking an Oscar winner to moonlight on Passions. He could still do, do it just as well as these kids did, if not better. He could put on a match of the year contender if they let him.

Except he knew he was exaggerating. He could do the match sure, but not the grind of day in day out wrestling, the kind you needed to build up a decent feud. He didn't want to be a one-shot merchant like that hack Foley. Sure he came back, but never for long enough and it didn't matter how good the match was, if there wasn't the right build-up then it didn't matter to the fans so the match couldn't be good. Shit matches were acclaimed, just 'cause they meant something to people, like Rocky v Hogan. The psychology of the match was vital and it was difficult to get these young punks to understand that. So that's what he did now, he added to the psychology, but he ached to be the one making the fans scream.

4 - Randy and the future - Randy wanted the future to be his, but it would carry on without him. It was frustrating, he was out with his shoulder when John and Dave were building up their careers and all he could do was sit. The worst of it was Dave would be done within ten years but now Dave had his place, his position, his title, and there was nothing he could do about it. Never mind that John was getting all these cheers that he couldn't get and he used to get boos just as easily. That was what he was really competing against; it was his future legacy against John's and John already had the advantage.

5 - Cole for Tazz - He'd come up with a thousand different scenarios for doing this. Not one of them ended well. They all ended badly. He'd only managed to come up with ten where Tazz did physical injury to him. The worst was the one where Tazz ended up in jail for putting him in hospital because someone saw him do it. Most of them ended with Tazz walking away from him and demanding to be moved to RAW and him having to put up with Lawler again. There was one where Tazz punched him and then did that, but that seemed no worse than the others.

There were even a few, and for some reason these seemed to him the worst, where Tazz didn't ask for a transfer and it just got more and more awkward between them until one or the other was sacked because their on-screen partnership didn't work any more. There were ones where Tazz let him down kindly and they hurt just as much as the ones where Tazz let him down harshly, even the ones where Tazz said yes, things went downhill immediately. Cole thought it was significant that even in his fantasies it just didn't work.

6 - Victoria for Trish, back when Victoria was introduced - Stupid perfect little bitch. Want to hear her scream my name ... when I strangle her, when I fingerfuck her so deep and well and want to hear her scream. See her perfect candy-pink lips open up, and cover them in her blood. Bleed for me, like my blood screams for her. Rest against her, press against her. Feather-heavy, bench-press light. Comfort her in cotton wool. I love her, she drives me crazier.

She doesn't even know I exist.

7 - Kane for Lita, before the recent whatever is actually going on - I see her and Matt walking round, curled up around each other. I want to be the one she cuddles up to. I know she fits just right into the crook of my arm. My beloved brother and me were fighting the Hardy brothers, and fearless little Spitfire that she is she tried to hurracanrana me. Of course it didn't work, I'm just that bit too big. I put her down on the turnbuckle, didn't want to hurt her fragile toughness. But now he had his chance to have her, to love her like she needed to be loved. And she would love him like he needed to be loved, and they would be married and have children and be happy ever after and she would forget about Matt and they'd be happy together. Them happy together, that's all he wanted.

8 - Jamie and Nidia, a short snippet from the Factory Town fic I'm working on - He didn't seem to mind, the way her mind seemed to wander when he talked. The way her attention went to something else most of the time when he was around. She couldn't help it though, it wasn't like he was wonderful to talk to. She wasn't interested in his hours spent putting the same bit on cars on the conveyor belt. And she wasn't interested in factory gossip, she heard it all at work, and what she didn't hear she started. It was quite wearing on her, the way he'd go on, but she couldn't ask him to shut up 'cause he'd be upset, and that just wouldn't work. He loved her, and she liked him, and she really didn't feel like upsetting the apple cart.

9 - Conway for Sylvan who is with Rene - There was nothing worse than being single on Valentine's Day, thought Rob. Except on reflection, and a large gulp of his drink, being single on Valentine's Day when everyone around you is snuggling with their significant other. That also wasn't entirely accurate, he concluded, finishing his drink, there truly wasn't anything worse than being single on Valentine's Day when the object of your affection was kissing and probably more with his boyfriend right above you while your only companion is slightly warm weak beer. Laughing bitterly, Rob decided that if he was ever going to be his gimmick for real, it would be American beer that drove him to it.

10 - Rene for what he and Sylvan could have had - We would have been great together; you fit next to me so perfectly. But now you're on the other show, and you've always said how much you hated long distance relationships and most of the time we are now a ridiculously long distance apart. It's not the same now; you can't make catty jokes in French when your tag partner is Japanese. If only I had said something. But I don't think it would have changed anything. But maybe it would have done. But no, you would still have flirted with everyone, no matter how much it annoys me, and I would still wake up at ridiculous hours of the morning and generally live in a way you objected to. But I want to believe that we would have got through that because then I've still got my regrets, and regrets give me hope that if there's ever a situation where I could say something, this time I will.

11 - Lupin and the Veil of Mystery - He sat in front of it for hours sometimes. He knew it was madness. It was in the Department of Mysteries for goodness sakes, of course no-one knew how it worked.

He knew the others worried about him, were measuring him up for a trip to St. Mungo's, and he repressed a shiver at the thought. It wasn't like he was going to throw himself through it. No one knew how it worked so there was no telling that he'd end up in the same place or lack of place as Sirius or if indeed it lead to any place.

Its blankness was galling, the way it didn't do anything, it just stayed there and nothing ever came back out. He'd thrown enough paper aeroplanes into it, even tried a boomerang once. It hadn't come back either. A non-returning boomerang. Maybe he should sue the company that made them, except it had come back fine when he'd tested it outside. He threatened to put a rat through once, but then thought again. Maybe it had family and friends, maybe it had had a row this morning with someone who forgot to say sorry. It wouldn't have come back either.

12 - Snape for Lily - She didn't like him. Worse than that, she'd tried to be nice about it, telling him how much she liked him but just not that way. He was a good friend, but she'd never thought about him like that, of course there wasn't anything wrong with him she just didn't. And no it had nothing to do with him being in Slytherin, she got on with Slytherins. And no, James Potter hadn't been saying anything to her about him, she couldn't stand James Potter anyway so why would she listen to him. And no, that didn't mean that it was Lupin or Pettigrew that had talked to her either. She'd been so kind about it, so understanding, that no this wouldn't change anything between them when it so obviously would, because it would, wouldn't it, had to. Why did she have to be so nice, couldn't she have let him down hard so he could call her a mudblood bitch in peace and not still feel this stupid admiration for her.

13 - Eowyn for Aragorn - It was into a sparkling cavern of a cage that Aragorn shone his light when he first arrived in Edoras. To Eowyn the hall glittered like it never had done. Before he arrived she had foreseen her future, she would look after her uncle, ward Grima off as well as she could without her brother's presence, but soon she knew her uncle, at Grima's urging, would set a date for their marriage, and as a loyal niece she would obey. For there was no other way, she could not slaughter Grima, she would be caught and punished as all murderers should and who then would look after Theoden. He gave her hope, and she loved him for it. He was Aragorn, high king, and he was as beautiful as a sword. She would make him a good wife, a loyal and noble wife, because he would rescue her from this.

14 - Boromir for Gondor - He gathered earth from the last part of Gondor that he touched. He needed to feel its weight and dampness, because it used to be of better quality, even within his life some life had drained away from it. And it was that that he was riding out to save. Save Middle Earth maybe, but definitely save Gondor. Save Minas Tirith, whose spires he could see even this far out. But he would see them wherever he went; they were engraved upon his heart. They would provide him with comfort as he rode out to Rivendell. And they made it worth it, even if he died in the attempt. He would be buried in this earth, having done his best to save it.

15 - Faramir for his Father - All he wanted was for his Father to love him just a little. Not even as much as he loved Boromir, just enough that he might chuck him on the cheek, or ruffle his hair. He knew Father wouldn't love him as much as he did Boromir, accepted it even. But he tried hard; he did, he was better than Boromir at his lessons, the ones that involved books anyway, because he listened to Mithrandir while Boromir seemed to prefer watching the dust motes. It wasn't even as though he was that far behind his brother with his weapon training, not when you also considered their differences in ages. No, he could not understand it; he could but live with it and hope it changed.

16 - Ethan for Ripper - Of course Ripper must never know. Or rather he must never be certain. Oh the uncertainty would pay his dues to chaos for at least the next few months. A slightly too long leer at Ripper's arse covered in tight denim, not that he could help the length of the stare, that arse was a work of art.

"What you up to Ethan?"
"Nothing."
"Yeah right. I never figured you for an arse bandit."
"Yes, but there's so much you don't know about me." Ethan casually draped an arm across Ripper, who scrambled away like he was some sort of demon. "Oh come on mate, can't you take a joke? You know what they say about men who are so sodding insistant that they aren't sods?" Ethan laughed. No, Ripper must never know.

17 - Ethan for Giles - It was a lot more fun when the old man Giles was doing this to him rather than Ripper, sure he just loved the leather look that Ripper had, trousers so tight you could see every movement, there was something about being beaten up by a man in tweed, a man in tweed who knew what he was doing no less, that made Ethan's blood stir like nothing else. A painful sensation like pleasure washed through him, and Giles decided to take pity on him. Now he finally decided to learn pity.

"Just tell me what I want to know and I'll stop this." Like that was going to convince Ethan to tell him. Giles was giving him what he wanted and was offering to stop if Ethan gave him information. This may not be Giles's greatest plan ever but how is Giles supposed to know that. Ripper might have been able to guess, but not Giles, and neither of them would know why.

18 - Lex for Clark\Superman, and the slash is important - Lex tapped his fingers on the cool steel-coloured desk. It was a stupid, foolish habit he'd picked up. But Superman did this to him. It had to stop. He really should have Superman crushed. But he couldn't... for all his father would call this sentimental rubbish. Clark still mattered to him. Mattered to him when was an annoying reporter, mattered to him when he was a supposedly disguised spandex-clad superhero. Because really, who did Clark think he was fooling? Clark was the demon angel that was chasing him down and he just couldn't kill him. Because he loved him and Clark hadn't killed him yet either and maybe that was a sign.

19 - Jack for Doctor Who - I would stand in front of a tidal wave for him. I figured that out far too long ago for it to bother me any more. And then, roughly four seconds after that first brainwave, I realised it wouldn't matter, because while he'd care and be upset, he was Rose's and that was that. I'm over that too. The thing that haunts me, through the ice planets and the warm planets, the here and now that was then and there, is that I probably would end up in front of a tidal wave if I stayed with him, and I don't mind. Jack Harkness is nobody's fool, but I'm ashamed to say that the idea doesn't scare me as much as it should. Remember the first rule Jackie-boy, get in, get out, stay alive and no-one gets hurt. The Doctor seems to play by the same rules, well he says he does, but he sure interprets them differently to everyone else.

20 - Obi-Wan for Qui-Gon - Obi-Wan was a padawan, past his first blush of adolescence but barely, when he first became aware of Qui-Gon the man not the Jedi. But he was his padawan, and they were Jedi and it would not be right.

So he learnt, and trained, and fought and helped and loved his master as a good padawan should, and adored him more than Jedi were allowed to.

Obi-Wan was twenty-one when he finally realised why Jedi shouldn't love. In that moment of realisation he could feel the living Force whirl around him as he never had before and he would have used it all, sucked the life from everyone on the planet, the Naboo, the Gugan, the planet itself, if he could only have Qui-Gon back. The Dark Side held him firmly in its grasp when his teaching came back to him and he let it pass.

It was twelve years later when Obi-Wan felt a Force touch suffused with love when he realised that the Light side of the Force granted all that you wanted.

21 - Wolverine for Rogue - She smells different when you come back, smells ripe, like a juicy peach, Alabama peach instead of Georgia. You wonder exactly how juicy she'd be before you shake off that thought, half horrified, half amused. Horrified because along with being young enough to be your daughter she kind of was, or the nearest you'd get. Never mind killing for her, you'd die for her and that was harder. Amused because the chances were he would be the only one who'd ever find out. Closer than Bobby would get. Poor kid, he was turning green with envy just looking at you, especially as Marie had just wrapped you in an all enveloping hug. But that's what you've got to remember, not matter what changes with her, or how your blood now rushes hot and cold at her touch, she's Bobby's and she's chosen him, so down boy.

And if required, I even have reasons why these aren't properly fully-fledged fics.
