Film stuff

redfiona99The first Tomb Raider film isn't the worst film ever, it's a close 3rd. (For future reference, my 3 least favourite films of all time are 1) Reign of Fire because it could have been so much better. I mean there are a few scenes that are just brilliant and other scenes that could have been if only they'd been done slightly differently. This hurts my film-sense greatly, 2) Men In Black, it just seemed so smug and 3) Tomb Raider for making no sense whatsoever.)
I don't count films that might have been good had they had better resources since that isn't the film-makers fault, plus I'm supposed to be an indy chick so I should be able to cope with shoddy production values.
As it is, at least Tomb Raider gives me naked Daniel Craig, or nearly naked, even if it saddles him with an accent and gives him nothing to do, and Julian Rhind-Tutt plus Iain Glen and the distinct possibility of nerd sex (Bryce/Pimms - yes I know, once again with the minor character slash but I tell you it's a lot easier to write because you can find the time where they're doing anything a lot easier since they're not on screen) Because Pimms is Powell's chief gopher and yet in the end sequence, he's 1) camped outside with Bryce (which could just be a sign that he's sensible), 2) he doesn't seem to give a damn when Powell is killed, 3) he follows Lara's orders without question. Now while a more rational explanation would be that he's sensible and realises when the game is up like Julius does, or that Lara seduced him (please excuse me while my mind goes to a happy place since that is a very pretty thought), I like the concept of Bryce/Pimms.
And Chris Barrie playing a really cool butler. I want a Hilary of my own.
Plus Angelina Jolie's accent wasn't bad, and did I mention naked Daniel Craig? And Leslie Philips, always a good thing.
However the brain bleeding story gaps were a little much, as was the missuse of Daniel Craig.
And straight after that I started watching Van Helsing (yes, I could feel my brain turning to mush) which is better on the second viewing. Even though most of the original feelings apply - I still love Carl too much, the Dracubabes are still the most annoying creatures ever to have been in a film, the Gravedigger is still cool and I still don't like Anna (poosibly because I don't like this new Hollywoodised version of Kate Beckinsale), and I still love this version of Dracula. Proper review will appear once I go back to uni, I think, because I started it on the laptop and I'm not certain what to say next.
I like Van Helsing himself a lot more the second time around.

Oh and there was Sean Bean voicing a lion, which was cool since I am very suceptible to his voice but damned if it wasn't some hideous piece of anthropomorphic crud, all sentimentality and moral messages.
