I was watching the repeat of Becoming part 1 (which I've only seen the oh, 5 times, hurry up with the new series), and have come to the conclusion that either Joss Whedon knows nothing about UK geography, or that the caption is wrong and where it says London, it means Manchester.
Evidence for this:
Drusilla talking about mines - the nearest mines to London are in Cornwall, or Wales. A long way either way. Meanwhile Manchester lies right on top of a coal field.
Spike's support for Man Utd - no sane Londoner would support Man U. So he can't be. Plus I'd like to believe he's a Northerner, his accent is definitely more that way inclined.
