redfiona99AKA thank goodness for Eurosport, who showed the none England/Wales matches. Which meant I got to see Netherlands v Austria.
Okay so they lost 3-1, but they tried. And at least they held Holland to 1-1 up to half time.
And then he came on. Pierre Van Hooidonk.
At this point I'd like to say that when I said I'd never wish any sportsman ill, I was sadly mistaken. He is the one exception. And before anyone says I am being unreasonable, I am a Nottingham Forest fan. He singlehandedly relegated the team, and they've never recovered from it.
To further explain. At his previous club, he had been complaining about wanting to break into English football. Forest bought him. He helped, was in fact probably the main reason why, get us promoted. So he's finally in the Premiership.
And he decides that Forest don't have enough ambition for him. He wants to move. And so he refuses to play for them. Stays away, while still getting his wages. Of course that ruins the Premiership run, the team was built around him you see, and Forest get relegated.
They did finally sell him back to Feynoord (I think) and he's played spellbindingly well ever since.
I despise him.
(As I said, it probably is unreasonable)
Thankfully, he didn't get a goal. But even so he helped his team win, hence Austria are definitely out of Euro 2004.
Blast.
Other than that, the ref was playing for them, and Austria need another goalkeeper.
(The ref thing isn't bias, it's a well known fact that referees play for Holland- ask the Czechs or the Italians)
On other sporting news.
England won in the cricket. So the series is drawn 2-2. And Flintoff won the 'Man of the Series' thing. Got to love that. There will be pictures soon, not least of all of Martin Bicknall. He cute.
But I shall miss Alec Stewart.
And then I find out that Roddick won the US Open. And Ferrero was the runner-up. Both my boys did so well. And that means they've both won a Slam title this year.
I like Ferrero for the good reasons, his tennis is a thing of beauty.
I like Roddick for all the wrong reasons, I don't even think he's cute (he's not) but he seems to put his heart into everything. You can't not love him.
So yeah, I'm happy.
