Lisa Gerrard, the singer/composer of music from Gladiator with Hans Zimmer, is Australian, and used to live quite near me when I was a kid. It's a very industrial/rural area (power plants, paper manufacturing, beef farming), but there's this beautiful artist colony up in the hills where I had cello lessons, and she was one of the people who lived there. They all designed and built their own houses out of mud brick and stained glass. So I wasn't surprised to hear her make music as beautiful as that!
