Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (the first one) felt like it was two films smooshed into one and I don't think the smooshing quite worked.

The first film was all about the joy of magic, all fwee and joy and nifflers and Jacob.
The second film was all about the perils of magic, and not acknowledging it, and was all dark and misery.

As you may have guessed, I enjoyed the happy film more.

Eddie Redmayne was having to do a lot of heavy welding along the joins of the two films and he does excellently (I have been mean about his work before, but he's marvellous as Newt) but it still doesn't work.

Colin Farrell and Ezra Miller are also really good, but I fear Dan Fogler's performance is overlooked because he does such a good job of being so utterly normal.

One thing I didn't like is that while we know they can't kill Grindlewald, at point did I believe their attempts at capturing him. That could have been done better.

There is however a cuddly toy niffler that shall be mine once lockdown is over. I have resisted so far but quarantine is making me frivolous.
