I am now Dr. Red :D

Viva went well. They thought I knew my stuff, asked no difficult questions, their only problem was with the way I'd written my thesis. Basically I have to re-write my results section, or write it in the first place, really, it's somewhat underwritten as it stands. I've got two months to do it in, which I think is doable, because I've got all the information, it just needs to be put in.

The first copy of the final draft is done. 166 pages or 24244 words. I never wish to see it again, but I know there are at least two more rounds of corrections (my supervisor's final ones and my viva corrections) in my future.

Tickets to go see Ed Byrne in November and Henry Rollins (!!!!) in January. All for the princely sum of £32.

Eee!

Am just on AIM and it becomes apparent that I haven't told you lot the best news I've had all week.

Guess who's got her summer placement in a lab.
8 weeks in a lab, £165 a week (tax free), great for CV and it's with the guy that I'm doing my final year project with. Wheeeeeee.

Okay, I realise that LJ is supposed to be used for constructive purposes but I've just got 85% on a plant essay marked by the plant guy. Please excuse me while I do the samba of success.

Actually the really worrying thing was that this was going to be a rant entry before this joyous news. Mainly because our lecturers are going on strike, so we're missing lectures. And that's fine because they're striking for quite reasonable reasons.

The problem is the day after we're supposed to be on strike and the lecturers (the ones that are one strike on Tuesday) are all like, 'fine, strike but you'll be missing lectures and don't expect us to go over things'. And it's like, WTF, it's not like we're striking for the fun of it, it's because the government wants to change the system so only the rich can afford a decent university education. This is also a reasonable reason, yes?

But yeah, apart from that, and a practical mark (65% on something I slaved my guts out over) and that one of my friends is probably going to murder me for reasons that are only partly my fault, I'm good.

Plus I got adorably stupid 'The Passion of Christ' spam. Really dudes, I was going to go see it anyway, not least because it looks like an interesting film. And for once Mel Gibson doesn't seem to have strayed too far from the source material. (Sorry, end bitterness about Braveheart and The Patriot)
