( Day 1 )
Important points:
5.30 am bad
Aer Lingus good
UCD campus and staff good
UCD computer system bad
Football bad
( Day 2 )
Early mornings bad.
Talks good.
Alcohol bad.
( Day 3 )
Coffee vital for conferences.
Guinness actually drinkable in Ireland
( Day 4 )
I still don't like whiskey.
Teenagers are terrifying.
Chemistry, however, remains interesting.
( Day 5 )
Poster presentation went well.
( Friday in Dublin )
( Saturday in Howth )
( Sunday in Dublin )
Some pictures, hopefully in clickable thumbnail format:
O'Reilly Hall at UCD -
I wish I'd got a decent shot of the rest of the campus because there's lots of pretty trees, and a lot of campus is the sort of 60s/70s concrete futurism that I like.
A photo from the walk round Howth Head -
I solemnly swear it is just outside of Dublin. Yes, I know how sunny it is. How do you think I got the sunburn? As one of the Germans said, it looks more like California than Ireland.
As proof that I was in Ireland, this is what Christ Church Cathedral looked like the next day -

I'm off for the next two weeks. Firstly to London to watch some fencing and then off to San Francisco for the remainder. I'm a bit :( to be missing most of the home Olympics, but I'm getting to meet up with friends which is so much more important.
That, and I shan't miss the BBC commentators and their various attempts to assure me I'm cheering for the Brits. I accept that as the British Broadcasting Company, it's the line they have to toe, but at least in the men's doubles, no, I really won't (unfortunate first round draw sees one of the British men's doubles teams play the Austrian team).
I will try to catch up with your posts when I get back but in case LJ plays up, just drop me a line here with anything.

A Miscelleny
Apr. 24th, 2011 11:05 pmHappy Easter to those that celebrate it. Happy Sunday to anyone that doesn't.
The snooker has been a mixture of fun and not fun, in that people I like keep playing each other (Mark Selby vs Stephen Hendry being the major case in point).
Saints lost the Good Friday game. I was travelling back up, so I caught the last of the crowd. I <3 rugby league crowds, because you had all these big, bladdered, skinheaded, tattoos and gold-chained men, whose team had just lost the big local derby in the last minute of the match, and there wasn't a hint of trouble and I didn't feel in the slightest bit threatened.
Saw bits of the wrestling. The thing that excited me the most was seeing the trailer for Awesome Kong. I did the happy dance.
( It remains the best thing despite several things I liked )

I think the best answer to this is "whenever", although the Christmas when it took a concerted effort by everyone to convince my Mum that the tree ought to be up at some point on Christmas Day still stands out.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows (Part 1)
Trailers:
Saw the Green Hornet trailer. While I am pleased that they're not doing down Kato, I am now mildly confused as to why he needs Britt Reed at all. It appears to be the awesome adventures of Kato with some fool called Britt Reed.
( Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (part 1) )

Given that I always complain when LJ makes their questions, I'm going to commend them on getting this one right. Happy not quite Thanksgiving to the US-ians on my flist and happy unThanksgiving to the Canadians, who I think I forgot to wish happy Thanksgiving to when theirs rolled round.
~~~~
I am mostly getting over a cold, which I think I picked up from S. That's why I haven't posted about N&S's visit to the frozen North. The moment my nose works again, I shall post about that.
And also about a couple of the comic book movies coming out soonly.
It's either that, or worry about D, who I probably haven't mentioned before, who is presently near the border between the Koreas teaching English. I know, logically, that he'll be fine, but logic is not coming into my thoughts right now. I blame the cold.
