TNA - Why do I always like the idiots? )

The only important information - The never-ending feud is back on.

Judge Dredd - I've always said that Judge Dredd was a solid film that could have been better with a few small changes. There's so much good about it, especially the make-up FX and the set design (and the first scene in the Ethics class). All they'd need to do is not have Dredd reveal his face and not have Hershey be quite so emotional and squishy, because Hershey is not squishy. Or rename her. And cut out the romance. I promise there will be a more content-heavy post tomorrow.

Once again, I must beg for a beta. It's 1500 words of X-Men: First Class Emma Frost fic with too much Magneto if anyone feels like it.

I'm also having comma issues with the title of another fic. I'm trying to decide whether "My Brother Bill" or "My Brother, Bill" is more correct.

The really silly portion of today's post comes from this post on Nerve.com - http://www.nerve.com/entertainment/ranked/the-expendables-ranked-by-lifetime-sexual-magnetism

Which is wrong, damn it. Mostly because there is no planet where Sly Stallone is more attractive than Jason Statham, not even early '80s Nighthawks era Stallone. Also, the top 3 really ought to be Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li and either Bruce Willis or Statham. Actually, I'm okay with any variation of that top 4.

I've meant to post about the Dredd trailer for some time.

I am torn. On the one hand, it looks like it's going to be your basic action film, which is not what Judge Dredd is. On the other hand, some of the visual effects, especially the bits where you see things from the perspective of the slo-mo users looks so much like the comics and a lot of the scenery and costumes looks just right.

Also, they've got the greatest excuse for slow-motion shots ever :)

Shakespeare Meme - Day #26: Your favorite couple

Beatrice and Benedict, easily.

Because they really do love each other and I don't dislike either of them. The next nearest possibility is Hermia and Lysander.

Sorry for the radio silence, it's been a bit busy in rl, about which there will be a long post, later. But first, more fun things.

Films:

Before Sherlock Holmes there was a trailer for Iron Man 2. Other than being amused that villains still get lumbered with stock Russian accent number 2, I think Mickey Rourke's character could be really interesting.

The thing that really made me gleeful about the trailer was the bit where Tony Stark, about to make his big entrance in costume, goes 'a kiss for good luck,' so Pepper kisses the mask and throws it out of the plane.

I hope they give her more to do than just be jealous of Scarlet Johanson's character.

Comics and Manga:

Because I got paid the second half of my money for demonstrating, I went on a bit of a spree. I got the next three volumes of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and a 2000 AD book, which I haven't read before, called Murder 101. Yay, Sinister Dexter, which is probably the one 2000 AD strip you could easily turn into a film.

TV:

Last week's Being Human was interesting, inbetween the exquisite awkwardness of Annie's plan (Oh George, how do you get yourself into these things.), the vampire shennanigans and the reveal.

The thing I really like about Being Human is that, you know that thing when you're watching something, and a character gets a choice between action a and action b and they're both equally valid if not morally then functionally, and you know that they'll go for b because it's the 'right choice'. Being Human doesn't do that, so it gets to do interesting things, see also Karl the vampire from episode 2.

What I will say, is that the start of episode 3 contains the funniest take you'll see on the banality and beaurocracy of evil for quite some time. And also deeply horrifying at the same time.

Spoilers )

I still haven't seen this week's episode because Being Human has reached that pitch of where I want to see the next episode but am terrified by the horrible things they're going to do characters I like.

Meanwhile, also on a vampire tip, I am greatly amused by the Vampire Diaries. They are the epitome of the cheesy but fun. Also - Ian Sommerhalder.

I went to see Sherlock Holmes on Wednesday. My response was wheee! With some reservations, but mostly wheeee! )

All that being said, two other, non-spoilery bits of great amusement.

I spent the film wondering why I recognised P.C. Clark. It turns out it's William Houston who played Coriolanus when I saw it.

I also spent large chunks of the film swearing blind that it was the Dubliners doing the Rocky Road to Dublin on the soundtrack. I made my poor and unfortunate friends wait until the end of the credits to check, and of course it wasn't on there. I imdbed it later and sure enough it was (it's John Sheahan's fiddling), but really, I don't deserve my friends's patience.

I also don't deserve their generosity, because Naomi and Dr. Stu have bought me the 2000AD Big Finish audios for my birthday.

Beware spoilers for 2000AD prog which ever number they're up to. Seriously, it's a spoiler and a half dudes. )

2000AD, vicious satire, mindless violence, brilliant characters, occasional strip so bad you want to tear your ears out, and wonderful tendency to write stories that make you feel.

That the art work also pisses on Marvel and DC from a great height is also an advantage.
