To the surprise of no-one given how much earlier this film is than the others so far, there are no links between Hound of the Baskervilles and the other 100 films I have written about so far.

There are 8 people linking Mission Impossible 2 to 8 other films (1 person links to two films but one of those films is already linked by another person).

Mission Impossible 2 is marked by the number 1 on the diagram.

Thandiwe Newton (A) is also in Chronicles of Riddick (2).
Richard Roxburgh (B) is also in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (3)
Brendan Gleeson (C) is also in Assassin's Creed (4)
Dominic Purcell (D) is also in Blade Trinity (5) - Did I totally forget that Dominic Purcell is in MI:2, yes. Is this a bad sign for the film? Undoubtedly.
Hans Zimmer (E - he's the bottom of the two next to E) also wrote the score for Batman vs Superman (6)
Jeffrey L. Kimball (F) was also cinematographer for the Expendables (7).
Steven Kemper (G) also edited the Punisher (8)
Bob Brown (H - he's the top of the 2 next to H) also stunt co-ordinated for Chronicles of Riddick (2) and Scorpion King (9) (because Australia has a thriving film industry of pretending to be other countries and outer space.)

Complicated network diagram under the cut )

X-Men: Apocalypse (marked with an A) is linked to many films through the following people (you'll see why I've said many)

1 - Simon Kinberg - who also was also a writer for X-Men: Last Stand and Fantastic Four (2015) (these links pull X-Men: Apocalypse it into the "bad Marvel films" section)
2 - Michael Fassbender who is also in Assassin's Creed (which brought Assassin's Creed in and pulled the Importance of Being Ernest out - not sure why, but since it moved that much I've highlighted Importance of Being Ernest in blue)
3 - Stan Lee, who links X-Men: Apocalypse to the Punisher, Ghost Rider, Blade Trinity, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: Last Stand and Fantastic Four (2015). I was not kidding about the bad Marvel section, although it's noticeable these are all films that Marvel farmed out (except Blade Trinity).
4 - Josh McLaglen links it to Avatar (marked B) and The Scorpion King.
5 - Hutch Parker was also a producer on Fantastic Four (2015)
6 - Lauren Shuler Donner was also a producer on Origins: Wolverine and Last Stand
7 - Garrett Warren, a fight co-ordinator for this. He also worked on Avatar and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (marked as C) (as stunt co-ord and fight co-ord respectively)
8 - Trevor Habberstad - Hot Tub Time Machine (stunt co-ordinator for both this and that)

The Importance of Being Earnest is linked to three other films, via two actors.

Colin Firth was also in Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy while Judi Dench is in the Chronicles of Riddick and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy has links to three other films.

Ciarán Hinds is also in Hitman: Agent 47, John Hurt is also in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull while Hoyte Van Hoytema was also the cinematographer/DP for Spectre.
redfiona99: (Default)
This one is going to be complicated because Batman vs Superman is linked to 9 films by 8 people.

Network diagram below )

David S. Goyer has previous form for writing screenplays that don't seem to know who the characters are, as he wrote the Blade Trinity script. He also wrote the Ghost Rider script. This has brought the "bad Marvel films" cluster down further into the main body of the network. That process was aided by the fact that Isaac Hamon also worked on the stunts for Fantastic Four (2015), which is also in that cluster.

Diane Lane was also Judge Hershey in Judge Dredd, while Laurence Fishburne was in The Matrix: Reloaded. Jeremy Irons is also in Assassin's Creed.

Steven Mnuchin also produced Inherent Vice, while Bruce Moriarty also produced Reign of Fire.

Junkie XL also did the music for DOA.

Network diagram under the cut )

Assassin's Creed has links to two films, and two to each of those films.

Chris Brigham also produced Tomb of the Dragon Emperor while Mike Lambert also fight-choreographed it.

Frank Marshall also produced Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Ben Cooke was also stunt co-ordinator for it. Also, but not featured on this diagram, Ben Cooke was the stunt double for Jason Statham in Blitz. Looking at his IMDB photo, you can see why.

Network diagram under the cut )

There are many links between War and several other Jason Statham and or Jet Li films. I imagine that with a film with lots of stunts you like working with people you know know their stuff.

The links are as follows:

Jet Li is also in Romeo Must Die, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and the Expendables - it's never his fault that these films are not good.
Jason Statham is also in Revolver, Transporter 3, Expendables, Blitz and Wild Card - ditto, he is frequently the good thing about the bad film.
Devon Aoki was also in DOA: Dead or Alive
Steven Chasman also produced Transporter 3, Blitz, Wild Card and DOA: Dead or Alive.
Brian Tyler also did the music for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Expendables
Corey Yuen was also involved in Transporter 3, the Expendables, Wild Card and DOA.

That part of the diagram is getting distinctly crowded, which is why I've resorted to different colours and different sized fonts to try to clearly label everything.

There is only one link between Hot Tub Time Machine and the others. Michael Nelson was also a producer on League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

DOA has links to several films, but most of those films are films that were already linked to each other.

The links from DOA are:

Corey Yuen was also a choreographer on Transporter 3, the Expendables and Wild Card

Eric Roberts also in the Expendables and Inherent Vice

Steven Chasman also produced Transporter 3, Blitz and Wild Card

Andreas Grosch and Andreas Schmid also produced the Punisher (this caused the Punisher and Blade Trinity to swap places in the diagram)

Robert Kulzer also produced Fantastic Four (2015)

Kevin Nash is not high enough up the cast list to be the link between any of these films ;)

Hopefully medium sized network diagram below )

Many producers link Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to Reign of Fire. These producers are Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum, Derek Evans, Jonathan Glickman and Rebekah Rudd.

Jim Dowdall was also stunt co-ordinator for Blitz.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is linked to only two other films already on the diagram.

Denis L. Stewart who co-produced it was also a producer on the most recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and Gary Powell was a stunt coordinator for this and Spectre.

7 people link Tomorrow Never Dies to 5 other films in the list.

Michelle Yeoh also acted in the Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which Vic Armstrong was the stunt director for.

Judi Dench is also in The Chronicles of Riddick.

Desmond Llewelyn is also in Octopussy, which Michael G. Wilson also helped to produce.

Michael G. Wilson also produced Spectre, alongside Barbara Brocoli.

Robert Elswit was also the the cinematographer for Inherent Vice.

There is only one link between Inherent Vice and the other films in the diagram, and that is Eric Roberts who is in both films.
redfiona99: (Default)
Large network diagram underneath the cut )

The links between Spectre and other films are:

Michael G. Wilson, who was a writer for Octopussy was a producer for Spectre.

Monica Bellucci, who is also in The Matrix Reloaded. Which I had completely forgotten. Both films should be on this list for sheer misuse of Monica Bellucci.

An interesting thing for me is who isn't credited for Octopussy, but are for Spectre. The two who interest me are Ian Fleming and Barbara Broccoli also not. It could be that Barbara Broccoli isn't credited because Octopussy was made before she began to help Cubby Broccoli with producing the Bond films. I don't have my Bond guidebook to hand (yes, I do have a Bond guidebook, I am a Bond nerd).

The other one is the lack of Ian Fleming. I wonder if it's because the new films try to push the "based on the books" thing more than the older films. Despite taking just as many liberties, because the books decided the "is Bond a sociopath?" question with a loud, cheerful, "yes he is and we love him for it." (Seriously, read the opening story in "For Your Eyes Only" peeps!).

Priest involved three people with links to other films already in the diagram.

Giant network diagram underneath the cut )

The links are:

Karl Urban who is also in Chronicles of Riddick.

Michael De Luca, who was a producer on this, helped write Judge Dredd and was a producer on Ghost Rider. Adding the link to him moved I Robot down.

Christopher Young wrote the music for this and for Ghost Rider.
redfiona99: (Default)
Hitman: Agent 47 really complicates the picture. 7 people involved in making it were involved in other films already on the diagram, but they were involved in 9 films (actually only 6 films but 9 different links). This means this week's diagram is messy.

giant and messy network diagram under the cut )

The links are:

Skip Woods, who wrote and produced Hitman: Agent 47 also wrote the A-Team film and Wolverine: Origins so he has previous in poor writing for invulnerable characters.

Jürgen Prochnow who appears in a blink and you'll miss him at the start was also in Judge Dredd.

Alex Young who produced this also produced the A-Team film.

Marco Beltrami was also the composer for "I Robot" and the Fantastic 4 reboot.

Nicolas de Toth was also the editor for Wolverine: Origins.

Meanwhile, in the stunts section, Jonathan Eusebio also worked on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Expendables while Jon Valera worked on the Expendables.

Next time I think I'll use a smaller font.

Adding Fantastic Four 2015 has changed things.

Obviously it fits right in the "bad Marvel film" section (it does strike me that none of the Marvel Studio/MCU ones are even close to being included in this, even my least favourite ones). It fits so well that when it pulled them down, Stan Lee's bubble was pulled to underneath the Fantastic Four bubble. He's in there, just hidden.

Simon Kinberg links the film directly to X-Men: Last Stand. He was a writer on Last Stand (and still apologises for what he did to Cyclops) and producer on Fantastic Four.

Marco Beltrami composed the music for this and I, Robot.

Stephen E. Rivkin edited both this and Avatar. That was the addition that really changed the rest of the diagram, pulling Avatar up and pushing Romeo Must Die out of the main body of the network.

The other interesting thing to note is despite how close Liev Schreiber and Wolverine Origins are to this, there is no direct link, those bubbles, much like the Stan Lee bubble, have just been pulled there and trapped by how they're tied to other films in the Bad Marvel Films section.

Solomon Kane is connect by 5 people to 3 different films. It shares Jason Flemyng and Dan Laustsen (director of photography) with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the Hadida brothers were also producers on Blitz, and Max von Sydow was also in Judge Dredd.

Wild Card settles in between the rest of the French Action Film School films, Blitz and the Expendables. I think people like working with people they've worked with before and know they can trust.
