This week's TNA was good. And I don't just mean good by TNA standards, I mean actually good. Good guys did good thing, bad guys did bad things. I cheered for who they wanted me to cheer for (with the exception of the Dirty Heels, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Aries and Roode's particular brand of sneaky evil).
It opened strongly, with a contract signing with a minimum of silliness. I don't like promos where they mention the competition, but that's a personal thing, and this was done very well. They set EC3 up to be a legitimate threat and made Angle look like a million dollars.
Jeremy Borash's look of 'is everyone else here crazy?' when having to cope with an absence of Bram and a presence of Joseph Parks was brilliant.
The audience were going nuts for the Wolves. I was less so, see also my fondness for the Dirty Heels's particular brand of evil, also, you know, it's not like they pretended to be good guys. It's in their name. My problems with the gullibility of the good guys aside, I think it's also better for the best of 5 series that there's good guys and bad guys. The first two matches were technically solid, but missing that bit of spark, but the minute that more character than 'yo we wrestle good' could be shown, whomp there it is. (I had the same problem with several of the matches in the Wolves vs Dudleys vs Hardys series.)
And of course the forces of darkness were hoist by their own petard, because that's how it's supposed to happen.
The Awesome Kong 'n' Brooke match vs Marti and Jade of the Dollhouse was good and fun and told a story and no-one had to wear lingerie. Also, awesome double team move by Awesome Brooke (and a damn nice double suplex by Awesome Kong on both Dollhouse members - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVThIjT4cFU&list=PLcovtt7Bdo9NSaXY45IEe_yCuVAqpfEpv&index=5).
Jesse Godderz is giving it some excellent heeling. I wanted to punch him in the face, in the good way (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYIYjbCXZSU). Admittedly you can tell it's TNA because he has a much better tune now that he's a bad guy. TNA haven't put it up yet, but I shall share it once they have.
Talking of evil-doers with excessively good music, James Storm was finally able to deliver the downright meanest, nastiest heel promo that he's ever delivered and it was horrible and I wanted Magnus to smack him and it was glorious (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yr--DRK7WOw&list=PLcovtt7Bdo9NSaXY45IEe_yCuVAqpfEpv&index=8). The crowd were willing Magnus to rip him to shreds.
EC3 vs Bobby Lashley was good. It made EC3 look mean and Lashley look like a million dollars.
This week's was good. I live in hope next week's is too.
