No recs or videos, just some thoughts.
1 - I have no idea who is writing One Direction's stuff for them, but they are doing a damn good job. I mean, I hate One Direction and all their works, but it's catchy (unfeasably catchy) and just vague enough to send your 13 year old girls's hearts a-leaping. Good job, whoever.
2 - A lot of the fuss over Taylor Swift's lyrics being about exes misses two things. 1 - not all of them are and 2 - she's from country music, the land of 'drawing on your own miseries for lyrics' see also Loretta Lynn, see also Dolly Parton, see also Johnny Cash.
3 - Also in re: Ms. Swift, not only is Shake It Off stupendously catch but everytime I hear it I think of collegue dancing too it. It's a spectacular memory.
4 - It strikes me as odd that a song called "All About That Bass" has such a weak baseline. I know it's just an excuse to talk about posteriors but needs more bass sax.
