redfiona99After last week's show where there was no wrestling and everyone's plots moved forward, we had a show with wrestling, but almost no plot moving forward. Given the lack of costume changes even for those whose costumes are very much one offs (hi Jeff Hardy), I suspect this and last week's were filmed together and they tried to stop anyone having to wrestle twice (which I'm cool with) but I live in hope that they'll learn to balance it out a bit better in the future.
I missed the first few minutes due to TV issues but apparently there was a brawl.
Then came Taryn 'n' Velvet vs Gail 'n' Tara, ruined by having Joey Ryan as the ref. Although, I will give them props for sleazy, gropey guy being the heel. Eventually, at some point, we will get Gail vs Taryn but not this week.
Then came the contract signing for the Tag belts. It's going to be best 2 out of 3 falls, if Chavo and Hernandez lose, they have to split for ever and ever (which I believe is 3 years in TNA). The thing that annoyed me about this was that Roode and Aries came out looking all smart casual, Chavo was dressed up in a suit ... and Hernandez was in ring gear. I refuse to believe that Hernandez wouldn't rock a suit. Look at him, he's got broad shoulders and is tall. He'd look smoking. Little details, TNA, they matter.
Then came Gutcheck, and it turns out it is that Adam Pierce. And could they have given him and Magno a worse match up?
AJ Styles continues to hate everyone but was going to speak before James Storm came out and interrupted him. I suspect violence in their future.
I know what they're trying to do with Hulk Hogan, but it won't work because he's being mean to Sting. And Sting has done nothing wrong, so it's Hogan that comes out looking like a twerp.
The two Impacts being filmed at the same time does explain the odd Hardy vs Anderson match up last week and Anderson's absence from the 5 vs 5 tag at the end of this week's. Aces and Eights continue to be blah with the usual honourable exceptions. Part of the problem was highlighted in one of Bully Ray's promos, where he was saying what he was planning for Aces and Eights (wrestling domination on an unprecedented scale blah, blah, blah, the usual), and he said maybe Brisco and Bischoff for the tag team titles (sudden pause) Or Knux and DOC. Way to make it clear that two of Aces & Eights are afterthoughts.
A lot of this is forgiveable because of the X-Division match. It was good. It would have been better if it had been Sonjay Dutt and Petey Williams but even so, Mason Andrews was solid. I know I shouldn't bitch about wrestlers not in a match, but could someone maybe show this match to Kenny King to make show that it's possible to be quick, flippy and non-totally oops-ridden.
The slightly spoilery thing that really annoyed me - Brooke, honey, it's not 1850, Bully Ray does not have to grant you a divorce. You can demand an annulment on grounds of fraud. I think his promos are perfectly adequate evidence.
