The Di Canio Incident

redfiona99Dear British Press, you are driving me to defend the fascists. Please consider how this makes me feel. I do not want to do this. But if you're going to say no one of political persuasion X can ever be in charge of something, it sounds a little well ... fascistic. If I'm allowed to call myself a socialist without having to defend myself from the various crimes that Stalin, Mao et al committed while wearing the name of that ideology, I'm willing to extend that to other people.
While I am aware of the historical association between fascism and racism, there's no evidence that Di Canio himself is a racist or has ever been accused of a racially aggravated offence, which puts him in a better position than 2 of the last 3 England captains.
All of this is even worse if you consider that Di Canio has been managing Swindon Town for more than a year, so there's a really confused message. Either lower league football isn't important enough to count, or, and this is my preferred option, people are just throwing a wildly hypocritical fit because they can.
