I've been kind of quiet of the wrestling front. This partly because all I can watch is TNA, where a few of the matches have started to take on a somewhat 'I've seen this before' flavour. The other problem is definitely entirely their fault though.
So a couple of weeks ago, Robert Roode, Bully Ray and Austin Aries come out to the ring. And they're heels. And the point of the heel whinefests is to make you hate them more. And all three of these men are good at what they do. I gleeful hate Robert Roode and Austin Aries, and I'm willing to write whole sonnets to Bully Ray's old school heelish brilliance. And it's not that I don't like the guys they are up against because I don't mind Jeff Hardy, I appreciate Shelley, I love Sting, and I frequently mark out for James Storm (when I don't want to throttle him, Storm is good). I should be all over this promo. But I'm not, because I feel the obnoxious jerks have a point. Sting shouldn't be putting himself in main events. He should be above it all. He's supposed to be the fair, impartial person in charge. And I know it's difficult because our three whiny friends are obnoxious but the good guys aren't supposed to stoop to their level.
It's very annoying when that sort of thing happens I continue to have zero interest in Garrick Bischoff. Like I said, he makes me want to yell nepotism at him, and they're making me cheer for Gunnar. No good comes of this.
The Daniels vs AJ for the love of Kazarian thing continues to make no sense. Adding Kennedy does not help. I do love Daniels and Kazarian's response of 'hey AJ, have you ever thought that all these people turning on you suggests that you're the problem. No, of course not, you're the ever-egotistical phenomenal one (grr argh!)'. I also like AJ's response of 'yeah, trusting people, that's a really bad habit (sarcasm and quirked eyebrow from Mr. Styles).

The sequel, as it were, to one of my favourite papers has just been published. The original (Hallmarks of Cancer by Hanahan & Weinberg, 2001 - http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.bbr.2011.03.031 ) remains one of the clearest explanations of the molecular biology of cancer that you can hope to find. I recommend it to anyone that has access to an academic or industrial subscription.
I shall read the follow up over the weekend.

Shakespeare Meme - Day 5 - Favourite Villain
In which I reveal myself to be a terrible Ricardian because my answer is Richard III in 'Richard III'. It's that glorious opening speech. He can't be good, or not good enough, so he'll be very bad indeed.
"And therefore,--since I cannot prove a lover,
To entertain these fair well-spoken days,--
I am determined to prove a villain,
And hate the idle pleasures of these days."
(And yet, I passed up tickets to see Kevin Spacey do this to go to an NMR conference. I regret nothing.)
