Firstly I hope all the various East-coasters are alright in between the hurricane and the earthquake.

Frankfurt was lots of fun but I'm utterly wiped, 5 days of sciencing from 8.30 to 19.00, and that was before the after day food (and drink, oh the drink). It got to the point where coffee stopped working.

Then I went to my friend's stag do, which was fun.

Now, I just need to sleep for the next 10 days to recover ;)

Other than that, two fannish matters:

1 - If anyone doesn't mind giving a ~ 8000 word X-Men:First Class gen fic a quick beta, I'd be obliged. Mostly it's picking up on any British-ism that have slipped the net, and the usual tenses issue.

1 - A reason for liking (or disliking!) the character

It's his dedication to petty evil. Any opportunity to cut a corner, use the brass knuckles, knee the opponent, and it will be taken. But most of the other heels cackle and talk about evil and God and judgement and damnation etc. He just does it. He's not evil, as it were, he's drawn that way.

It's why I like him, but I can see that also being a reason for disliking him.

2 - Two favourite ships

Molly / Regal. It's because they're so similar, in that they're quiet, even when they're being heels. Not that heel! Molly was ever all that evil but ... yeah, WWE's way of making female wrestlers heels continues to leave a lot to be desired.

Notwithstanding that, they're also quite different because, as I said Regal tends to be actively sneaky, mean, evil and Molly doesn't. That's where the tension comes from because Molly tries to be good and Regal can't help himself. The other thing is that Regal would do anything, and I mean anything, to stop Molly getting hurt. And he likes that she is good, and that's something he doesn't want damaged. On her side meanwhile, she likes that Regal is actually a good guy underneath it all, in that he'll lie and cheat and sneak in the ring, but not elsewhere, and he's kind.

Lance Storm / Regal. You really wouldn't credit the number of unfinished Storm / Regal fics I have on various hard-drives, floppy disks, USB sticks and CDs. I blame the Unamericans. The attraction is oddly similar to Regal / Molly, except not, mostly because Lance was also mostly a heel, but a man of a peculiar kind of honour while being sneaky evil. And again, quiet and around the same age, and similar styles of wrestling and the knowledge that they're probably never going to be world champion but still wanting it, and the lonliness and isolation of the road shared with someone else who gets it but doesn't want too much. They tend to be strangely yearning fics.

3 - three favourite friendships - Not using either of the people I used for my previous answers to spread the love around, although, they're both definitely in this list too.

Tajiri + Regal - Mostly because I love the image of them driving through the US in the same car and the whole Odd Couple thing, although they agree on the important things in life, by which I mean tea, and that the whole thing is mildly ridiculous. Also because Regal knows the whole Torrie thing will only end in tears and him saying as much because friends at least try to prevent that kind of disaster.

Christian + Regal - Again, I blame the Unamericans. Two infinitely sensible people stuck amidst craziness.

Wade Barrett + Regal - Because they're so similar, same neck of the woods (damn it, WWE, Preston is not Manchester). And Regal sees all the possibilities he did have in Barrett and all the things he didn't have because of his size and that there's now a great chance for non-North Americans to win titles in the WWE, and he doesn't want Barrett to fuck it up, so it's sort of mentor and mentee and Barrett listens, even when he doesn't want to, because he'll at least grant that Regal's giving him honest advice even if he's making Barrett angry.

4 - four pieces of headcanon

Is still in contact with Eugene and Eugene's mother, and makes sure to visit him occasionally becuase he knows how much wrestling means to Eugene but he also wants him safe.

He sometimes notices himself saying and phrasing things that, to his mind, are utter Americanisms. It terrifies him, because he's been in the US so long and he doesn't want to lose his sense of Englishness.

Regrets, he's got a few, but then again, too few to mention. The world title is one of them. That he prefers the Sid Vicious version of 'My Way' is not.
