As it was on BBC One last night, my much belated Sherlock thoughts:

- Oh Sherlock, you somehow have managed to improve his English.

- I also love how gleefully flippant he is about the man who was about to be hanged (although the hanged / hung thing is one of those parts of English I get wrong too).

- A bored Sherlock is a dangerous Sherlock. Also, he's an overgrown thirteen year old at the best of times, it gets worse when he's bored and he's a very grumpy one in this scene. I almost expected him to come out with 'it's not fair' a la Kevin.

- (giggling) It's that Watson double checks that it really is a head in his fridge. Why do you do that to yourself, John.

- I love how they've updated the memory thing.

- Re the explosion, it's like someone remembered these things have a percussive force as well.

- Sarah is much more forgiving than I would have been after the date of much kidnapping.

- Mycroft and Sherlock is always a brilliantly terrible combination.

- I love how they show that Mycroft is just as clever (and just as impossible) as his brother. And they're so spectacularly brothers.

- Hello 'The Bruce-Partington Plans' (why yes, I can identify the plots they've used.) Although they seemed to have smooshed it into 'The Naval Treaty'. I think that was one of my problems with it, that because I knew that story I knew where the plans were.

- 'I'd be lost without my blogger' oh loves!

- Scandal In Bohemia!

- Sherlock is likely to throttle Watson if even Donovan sniggers at him.

- The five pips!

- 'Hello sexy' sounds less terrifying when it's the TARDIS saying it.

- Poor Watson. I'm afraid Sherlock isn't capable of doing the nice cuddly emotions. Unfortunately, I'm with Sherlock on this one.

- Equally unfortunately, according to Sherlock half my friends are gay (notably, not the ones that actually are). This scene caused great ructions, because apparently the evil Moffatt is a homophobe. I don't think he is, and certainly, I wouldn't use that scene as evidence of it. Just remember guys, all gay men are lovely and wonderful, and to suggest otherwise is to be a homophobe.

- Watson trying to be Jimminy Cricket doesn't get old.

- I love that this version of Watson is not a fool.

- Sherlock and Watson have the same text tone as me, it's very disturbing, because while I'm watching I keep having to check that it's not me that's received a text.

- I also love how Sherlock knows that Mycroft must have been to the dentists.

- Genius use of Oyster cards.

- Sherlock does a brilliant job of acting like someone who is lying badly. (Benedict Cumberbatch is awesome!)

- I love that Moriarty is sending Sherlock love letters, it just happens to be that they're people wrapped in bombs.

- I also love that they make the proper dramatic form, where the hero is triumphant and then fails in order to rise again. And oh that smile!

- It's wrong to be distracted from the dead body by Benedict Cumberbatch's eyes. But oh wow, his eyes.

- Bad Samaritan may well be one of those lines. Also, the smile when Sherlock says 'something new'.

- When you need creepy call in John Sessions. Also, evil pyramid cat.

- Sherlock using the power of fansites for good. If this is possible ;)

- And this time it was Watson with the plan.

- I love that Sherlock, for all that he has a minimum of the squishy feelings, does try to save the old lady.

- I will not steal Sherlock's speech next time someone expects me to care about things in a way I am incapable of. This tends to happen whenever there's a charity thing. 'Why aren't you in floods about the littlest cancer patient/the starving of Africa/whatever I'm supposed to be in tears about?' 'Because it doesn't help.'

- John Watson, chief Holmes wrangler.

- I love the 21st Century Irregulars.

- Couldn't they have hired a Czech actress to play the Czech character?! Not that I don't love Hayden Gwynne but still. I refuse to believe that there isn't a single Czech actress in the UK willing and available.

- I loved the bit with the Golem if only because I've seen 'Sherlock Holmes and the Six Napoleons' or whatever that particular Rathbone one is (it's called The Pearl of Death).

- Yes, Watson, getting Sherlock into Jeremy Kyle is a terrible, terrible idea. It will mean you'll never have the TV to yourself ever again.

- Oh they're so wonderfully bitchy bantery.

- That's a dangerous smirk.

- The thing I loved about this episode is that for 8 whole split seconds I thought that Watson was it. Despite everything I knew, and how respectful they'd been to the source material, they got me to believe. And I think they got Sherlock as well.

- Of course, the actual reveal is less cool. I did like the suggestions made by other people that Jim is in fact a stand in for Molly, or Sarah, or Donovan or anyone but himself. I think I get what they were trying to do but I don't think they succeeded. No fault of the actor or the writing, I don't think, it just didn't mesh.

- The next person to complain about gay villains in this gets hit over the head with a book about unreliable narrators.

- :D Consulting criminal. It's such a wonderful idea.

- Oh they're made for each other, are Holmes and Moriarty. Yes, I know, obvious comment is obvious. But 'I didn't mean it as a compliment', 'yes, you did,' 'well yes'. And 'catch you later', 'no, you won't'. I think, to steal someone else's line 'they could hang around and do this forever'.

- Before the finale I read Moffatt's bit in the Grauniad where he was suggesting ways that he could have finished it but didn't. And he even included the actual way (which is to paraphrase the 'join me or die' dialogue straight from the book) and pretended that wasn't what he was going to do. Oh how I love you, evil Moffatt. (Article here - ww.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2010/aug/06/steven-moffat-moriarty-sherlock)

- Oh Sherlock's so discombobulated by gratitude. It's adorable. If it hadn't been for those eight seconds of doubt, that would be my favourite bit of the whole series. As it is, it makes me feel all warm and cuddly even just thinking about it.

- And that damn cliffhanger. With Watson and Holmes doing that telepathy thing. And a Mexican standoff. And damn it, knowing that there is going to be more soon makes it bearable, but only just.

I'm so sad that we won't be getting more until next year. I know they didn't actually announce more in the fall, but we were all hopeful.

And considering what's interfering with filming, I guess I can't complain too much.

Yeah, the BBC did basically come out with a statement of 'you can either cope with the gap in Dr. Who, or you have to deal with a longer gap between Sherlocks. There is a limit to how fast anyone can write.'
