A Mixed Bag
Jul. 21st, 2011 06:27 pmThis was going to be a post about how my graduation ceremony went, and one of the things I was going to say was that no matter how often I saw or wore a cap and gown it was always Dr. R that I thought of. Dr. R was the headmaster of the local school I ended up not going to, but my abiding memory of caps and gowns is him chasing after me down a corridor with his cape flapping behind him. He was chasing after me for good reasons, I hasten to add, in that he wanted to say hi to me and my Mum when we were at his school for an open day.
Anyway, as I was thinking about that, I went to have a quick look at Facebook and I find out that Dr. R recently died. And I know it's one of those coincidences but it doesn't prevent it from feeling a bit odd.
But yes, here's to Dr. R, who, from my own experiences, and those of my friends, was a thoroughly nice person.

It's seems a bit odd to seque from that to anything, but I think I spent ~ 1/2 the afternoon with my brain half way up the Galibier. Well played Andy Schleck for that breakaway, but my heart belongs to Tommy, who once again does remarkably well for a guy who can't climb. Contador's no-beef diet doesn't seem to be doing him any good /snerk.
