No spoilers for anything that happens after the episodes.

One day, his companions will notice that when the Doctor is manic it means he's about to do something he doesn't want to do but needs doing and it will be bad for all concerned. PS - Dear Doctor, it's a terrible coping strategy, I promise you. I know from personal experience.

I knew the Doctor wouldn't stay dead, but that's one hell of a thing to spring in your first episode.

I totally understand River's reaction and I love how despite that, she's the one laying down the law that they can't tell the Doctor.

That scene where River asks the Doctor to trust her is pretty wowzers, as is the 'swear on something, Pond'. I loved her choice, it's very her.

I knew Mark Sheppard was in this, but I didn't expect him to have an American accent. I'm so used to his other one that I couldn't remember what the US one sounded like. It definitely sounds better though.

I like Canton. He's so gloriously cynical.

Interesting choice, using Tricky Dicky. I know they had to, because of the timing, but it was interesting that they didn't make him in any way sinister.

The Silence in the bathroom was unnecessarily sinister (btw, accidental or deliberate wink to the Gentlemen?) as was the small child. Small children have become a general sign of creepy on this show. Also, why does a Silence want the Doctor to know about his future?

Pond being pregnant makes things interesting. I like both that she told the Doctor first and why and that they did make the level of awkwardness clear.

Great re-use of alien spaceship sets.

The scene where Amy almost shoots the small child astronaut was scary, not in the creepy sense but in the how close to tragedy it all got.

Interesting use of a time jump. I did like the twist that Canton was not, in fact, mind-wiped by the Silence, which was what I thought had happened. I love the explanation of the tally marks on their bodies, and the reveal that, as it were, they weren't locking the Doctor in, they were locking the Silence out. It clicked for me about three seconds before the reveal, which is a good effect.

I love that River throwing herself off buildings has become one of those things.

The recorder was a nifty get around to the forgetting problem.

The programme continues it's dedication to creepy with the children's home. I'm going to assume that the name that sounded like Renfield was a deliberate hat-tip to Dracula, especially as the Silence sleep like bats.

Why do the Silence want the child looked after. While writing this on the train, the thought occurred to me that maybe because they later find out it will kill the Doctor and the whole thing is locked in a loop.

I have no idea why there being just one room in the children's home that showed any sign of care somehow made the whole thing scarier, but it did. See also Amy suddenly having several tally marks all over her and 'get out' being scrawled across the wall.

I love that they thought they'd found Amy but it was only her transmitter. Rory clutching at it was touching.

Whoever designed the suit did it with a certain amount of love, given that it sends messages straight to the highest power present. And yet, it seems to be a well constructed prison as well.

I like that Canton might not get the tech being the phone camera, but he can use it anyway. It's something that bugs me in a lot of fish out of temporal water things. Our ancestors weren't stupid, why would transporting them to now change that?

Genius plan by the Doctor. Use the Silence's strengths against them. It does give them a way of escaping but given humanity's expansionist proclivities I sense a lot of running in their future.

As I said about part 1, it's interesting that Nixon is merely paranoid and worried about his legacy, rather than out and out evil, given how he's remembered. I think the Doctor's answer of 'you'll definitely be remembered' is probably the best one he could have given.

I loved Nixon saying 'This person you want to marry. Black? I know what people think of me, but perhaps I'm a little more liberal...'' and Canton just going 'yes, he is' followed by Nixon's harrumphing and Canton's looking of 'I expected this.'

So Pond has now achieved the feat of being a little bit pregnant.

I love that Rory is Stupidface and that he listens and that Amy knows and yells at him about it. I <3 the Ponds.

The scene with the little space girl and the homeless man was an interesting bookend. 'I'm dying. But I can fix that. It's easy really. See?' followed by time glow. So, what are we thinking, time-tot or Pond-spring?
