Surely how they would view us would depend on the aliens. I'm not sure I'm willing to make those kind of guesses as to how our universal brethern would behave.

And surely it would also depend on where they landed, 'cause I'm imagining that society in Siberia would be different than society in Salisbury. At least Siberia can cope with snow.

Other than that, I think I'd be less friendly to an alien who waving weaponery around (if I could recognise it as such) than one arriving bearing cake.

Mostly I sense I'd be either gibbering, or saying 'hello, how can I help?' Probably I'd be gibbering.

Film meme - Day 13 - A guilty pleasure...

I'm not sure someone who has ever Stephen Sommers film bar one on DVD gets to have guilty pleasures, but if I have to go for one, it's Moonraker - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonraker_%28film%29

It's not just that it's a terrible Bond film, it's a pretty bad film overall, and yet, I love it rather dearly.

I particularly love this particular bit of trivia

Jaws was intended to be a villain against Bond to the bitter end, but director Lewis Gilbert stated on the DVD documentary that he received so much fan mail from small children saying "Why can't Jaws be a goodie not a baddie", that as a result he was persuaded to make Jaws gradually become Bond's ally at the end of the film.

I'm not sure I'm willing to make those kind of guesses as to how our universal brethern would behave.

The terms "alien" and "brethren" could very well turn out to be mutually exclusive for all anyone knows. For example, how can you refer to a species that sees us as pests to be wiped out, abject failures to be laughed at, or as tasty snacks as "brethren"? Because this might be how they would view us.

If I have to call my relatives brethren, then I think I can call a few aliens that want to wipe us out that. Possibly fellow beings might be a better phrase?

Then again, bah, it's guilty pleasure, so. Not like I haven't the poorest tastes in that regard.
