I know it would probably be better to have just one, but they're a wide-ranging mish-mash so I thought this would be easier.
World Cup
Firstly, since I can't enter my post-dated guesses for the results of the world cup on
nwhyte's post, I wish to say that I did predict Argentina beating Nigeria and South Korea beating Greece, but that's because I see South Korea as a better version of the same team plan that Greece having going on.
According to L, who watched the Nigeria game (I couldn't, busy travelling), the only reason there weren't more goals in it was that the Nigerian goalie did the best Gigi Buffon impression ever. What I saw in the highlights was certainly very good on his part.
It does mean that the rest of my guesses may be out in that group, because I think I had Argentina and Nigeria going through, and I think it might well be Argentina and South Korea.
It's probably best not to talk about the England vs USA game. Really England, I ask this one thing of you, and you draw with the US!
Apparently the Serbia v Ghana match was much the same, and all the Algerian fans I know were doing the head-hanging thing too.
I guessed the result of precisely none of those games.
Got the Germany v Australia result right, well, the right way, not the right direction.
As far as the England match went, I think it's a bit unfair crucifying Robert Green. Yeah, it was a howler, but it wasn't like the rest of the team did much better. I mean, Steve Gerrard appeared to have run himself ragged because Fabio Cappello decided to not have a holding midfielder.
Shaun Wright-Phillips, much though I like him, was constantly in the wrong place on the pitch.
I shall, for once, congratulate the BBC commentating team because they actually pronounced Mesut Oezil's name right. And for all that I'm not a fan of Joachim Loew's coaching, he does at least know that you don't need to be over 25 to play for the national team.
